  • Does anyone know if these battery doorbells from TAPO can also be installed to draw power from a normal doorbell wire?
    - Hence not requiring the battery anymore

    • not this one - but other models do

  • Fantastic price!

  • +2

Unfortunately, the TD21 doorbell has a non-removable battery

    • So how do you charge it if you don’t mind me asking?

      • +2

you need to remove the whole unit from the mount to charge it

        • What a terrible idea I reckon. You need to buy two of these if you wanna make sure you always have one on your door then.

          • @w02m08w: Put it in charging at night before sleep, when you know you aren't expecting visitors, and plug it back in the morning. Requires once in 6 months, not ideal but not too much trouble, still at this price and no subscription BS makes it a good deal. Definitely better products are there for this category, but not at this price

        • I have one, charging is not a major issue if you can take 1 hour to charge via usb-c. I was worried but found it trivial

    • +2

Just a little tip, i bring a power bank and it sits on top of the unit. Charges in a few hours, doing this for 1yr since i had this, never had to take it off the wall. Battery last about 4 months for me

    this or aqara g4?

  • Just curious how it fixes to food etc

  • Does anyone have this and can confirm if battery life is good ?

Alot of people saying battery drops too quick

    • +1

Have to charge mine about every 2 weeks.

Don't like the speaker on the doorbell as I can't turn the volume up high enough for anyone to hear me over the road. Also pressing the doorbell doesn't call your phone like I expected, so we are just using it like door bell and a security camera.

Also sends me a notification that I've drained too much of my battery every single day

Have to charge mine about every 2 weeks.
wow that is too quick, pass

        • Either they have a faulty unit, an old battery, high amounts of foot traffic or just watch the live feed/video recordings a lot, 2 weeks is just WAY too often.

          • @WinterStar: 24 recorded events yesterday (generally it's less than that)and it's less then 6 months old. 🤷

            Maybe faulty idk

    • Ive got one .. prob charge every 4 months .. i guess it depends on how often its used and playbacked etc.
Great clear pics day and night.
      Recommended.

      • Does it send out a notification as soon as pressed? Or is there a lag?

        • There can be a lag before your phone triggers. There is a remote chime which triggers quickly

    • It really depends on the amount of usage and foot traffic near your camera. If you stare at the live feed or watch the video recordings a lot, it will drain your battery like crazy. If people or objects get detected a lot, that will drain it a lot too. Otherwise it'll pretty much be on standby and use 1% every 2-3 days.

I charge mine every 3-4 months. I live down the end of a driveway so not much foot traffic and I don't really check the recordings unless I really need to but I also share the access with a family member that loves watching the recordings so I'm forced to charge it a bit more often than needed, so it really is case by case.

    • I charge mine about 3 months. You can change sensitivity to trigger camera. I'm not in a busy location so my battery lasts fine.

  • Does any of the tapo record few seconds before motion detection? My previous door bell used to do that and it gave a full video of everything, eg: car coming. Now with Tapo D235, it only records when car is there and in a second the car is gone. So you dont see the full video.

  • this cannot see a package left somehow closer below the door bell, right? the 160°DFOV Ultra-Wide is horizontal not vertical

    • That is correct.

  • If no subscribtion, where does it record if you don't mind me asking. Thanks 🙏
Edit: Nevermind, records locally on SD card on the doorbell itself so if someone just pulls it and runs away you're pretty much stuffed.

  • They are also having 1/2 price for prime members on the ring battery doorbell going for $75 but not sure how well these are received by the ozbees..

  • Can it be mounted without needing to drill holes

    • Yes comes with a 3m sticker. Only suitable for certain surfaces.

  • Great unit. For the price, good clear picture and the app is good also. Notifies within a few seconds.
