Booking.com: 12% (13% SB Plus) Cashback on Accomodation / Hotels (Was 5.5%) @ ShopBack

255

Shopback Plus users get 13% cashback, 12% Cashback for Hotels for regular users.

Here's some important tips to make sure you're paying the lowest prices:

Booking.com may display a higher hotel rate / price when shopping through a cashback provider . This is usually the case for a lot of chain brand hotels. I recommend opening two different types of browsers (e.g Firefox + Chrome), one with cashback enabled and one without, and compare the prices side by side to see which hotels raise their prices.

Prices displayed on the Desktop site and through the Mobile (App) can be quite different. I recommend doing your preliminary research on the desktop site first, but complete the booking through mobile app. About 50% of the time, I usually get offered a lower price (Mobile-only discont)

Be sure to read the booking terms properly as some of these discounted options come with a big catch (non-refundable booking). If you are booking far in advance, it's worth paying the extra money for free cancellation, just to cover your buttocks in case your travel plan changes or if you find a better place elsewhere.

The usual terms are as follows:

Exclusions

You won't get Cashback on:

Flights and Packages (unless otherwise stated)
Any expenditure outside of the room rate (eg. in-room dining, spa etc)
Booking.basic reservations and Bookings made on external partner pages
Fees · Taxes · Service charges · Booking fees · Credit card charges
Any exceptions will be at the store's discretion.

Refunds, cancellations and no-shows

Any rejected, cancelled, refunded, exchanged or returned purchases will not be eligible for Cashback.
No-shows and any booking changes that lead to a change in the booking ID will not be eligible for Cashback.
We can only track your Cashback if you show up for your booking.

agreed, without it I feel like 12% isn't that impressive as that's close to what we see regularly (and not even taking into consideration the pricejacking when going through affiliate links)

lol so bs all the high end hotels are “sold out”

Haven’t used booking.com for ages, prices inflate a lot using SB and usually you can book on other site for cheaper even after sb

    • +9

Hotels decide how many of their rooms they offer to booking sites, that is why it shows as sold out on booking.com and the hotels website still says there is availability.

In my extensive experience, the best way to book accommodation is to book as far out as possible on booking.com with these sorts of Cashback deals, but ONLY book with 100% refundable rates. You then have that locked in, and can take your time looking for cheaper/better deals/options over the next few months, if you find them, just cancel, and rebook at the lower rates.

Ok fair call. In my experience booking.com always inflates their prices vs Agoda, Expedia

has anyone noticed the hotel prices to be higher when clicked through SB, than when u open the booking.com link directly?
Same thing goes for android n iphone app too, different prices on both the phone (same dates, same hotel, but iphone showed higher price)

    • yes, i gave up with cashback sites (inc shopback) and booked directly recently

  • +1

Like others have said, it takes a lot of effort to find hotels that don't jack up their prices when clicking through the cashback link, and you usually end up with a measly 3-5% discount in the end after cashback.

Much easier in my experience to book a hotel through Google Maps, where they compare the different sites for you (including the hotel's own site) and you usually end up with 10% off the usual rate.

  • Is anyone aware of cashback or other deals on car hire at the moment?

  • Seeing more and more issues wherw SB booking is more expensive than without. Highly recommend checking the rates before clicking through SB as the rates may increase negating your shopback cashback value. Also recommend checking via a VPN if you can. Had a $300 spread on a $1400 booking yesterday. Price went to $1700 non refundable with SB active vs $1400 free cancellation.

Same here I am seeing Jack a lot today

I prepared a list of hotels to book for my upcoming trip. Every single one of them had their prices jacked up.

After considering 13% cashback (as a plus member), the out of pocket price is slightly better, but I am not gonna risk paying more in advance, and dependent on successful tracking, confirmation and etc…

Should be illegal. Very deceptive and many people will not be aware the price is jacked.

I just had a look at only one hotel and it was 30% higher than through my desktop on Booking.com.

    • Agree, this is misleading and deceptive conduct.

    • -5

Give it a rest, please! Sure, do due diligence, but most prices are exactly the same and you can save hundreds on a booking. And the OP says just that!

      • +4

Any jacking at all is deceptive and should be illegal.

Even if it is cheaper, it's not the actual cashback advertised if you go to the main site. It's like saying discount 20% when using X bank credit card but when you try to pay, it jacks up the price so the actual discount is say 5%. This is very deceptive.

        • My example was 30% higher through Shopback than booking directly, which means there is a negative saving - you'll be spending more even after cashback.

Jacked before cashback in my instance

  • +1

Keep in mind, especially if you’re booking a smaller non chain hotel, that the hotels are essentially paying this cashback amount if they don’t jack their prices.

In a lot of cases, they’ll be getting hounded and bullied by Booking.com to keep parity to ensure they’re the ones subsidising this deal.

Think about it: Shopback is taking its cut and Booking.com is taking its cut.

Booking.com aren't offering you a discount out of the kindness of their (cold) hearts here. Either the consumer is getting screwed over or the hotel is.

Booking.com are the scum of the Earth with their anti-consumer practices.

  • +1

I have tried using Shopback on Booking.com, the price jack up more that 8% compared with using Trivago on the quote of same hotel.

  • I always used cash rewards when booking with booking.com. prices are always the same for me. is this just shopback's practice?

  • -1

I have no clue where people are searching for properties and finding jacked prices or how they have issues with booking.com.

I've always found the same or cheaper prices on mobile app and using Shopback. Absolutely zero difference between desktop app and if clicked via Shopback.com.

As for booking.com, it's always cheaper than the hotel directly. And their cancellation policies are amazing for me. Much better than the hotel directly. I'll often book 2-5 places on a special like this and then just pick which one I want later. Super consumer friendly.

  • +1

Neg for jacking and booking.com having crap customer service. Book direct.

  • Not jacked with cashback for me. I rebooked at the same rate as my nonSB booking.
