I've heard battery quality and warranty support is below average for Ego.

    • If you did not have an Ego you'd just be like the rest

      • +1

Indeed, it's not a dirty word, don't believe what you've seen or you've heard.

    • +2

My two ego batteries work fine… Never needed support so can't comment on that.

    • +3

I have had two or three warranty cases across my stuff, all sorted out quickly.

      Not my experience.

Had one battery after 2 years give red ring - replaced in 3 days.
Had the mower break (I think my fault) and wouldn't drop to settings below 3 (1-7) for height - dropped to repair centre, 48hrs later picked up a new replacement.

Redemption on extra batteries - when I bought they had two promos and they didn't exclude each other - and they honoured the deals (double dipped got cash discounts and extra batteries.

I tested a Milwaukee mower and strimmer and another brand (green) I can't remember now. EGO was far better - power and battery time.

Recently bought the Auger/Post hole digger. Freaking amazing. Pumped out 38 holes in clay/tough soil in 35 mins on one 7.5ah charge. 250mm wide, 800mm deep.

      Love EGO

    • I've actually bought and used their products and so far they are as good as Ryobi or Bosch blue or Hitachi in my experience. the quality of the actual skins though is night and day above Ryobi (36v) for garden equipment

    • They also never display weight of units on their website compared to say Stihl.

    • I had an issue with my ego battery once, warranty was so good I told my takes about it one of which went and bought some ego kit themselves.

    • I bought a mower, blower & line trimmer. Got 2x2.5A batteries via promo redemption. Both red light error within a year and wouldn’t charge more than 20%.

Replaced under warranty quickly. One of the replacements just gave the same error two weeks ago (about 2 years since I received) but then error disappeared.

Their tools are awesome, but yeah batteries have had issues from my pov.

Edit: I’ll say though the 7.5A battery I got with the mower hasn’t missed a beat. Still going strong.

    • They have repaired batteries under warranty for me. The batteries do die too often though. No other issues and been using them for around 7 years.

    • Had a battery die after 6 months. Sent a video of the red blinking lights. They said I could go into total tools to pickup a replacement or they'll ship one out to me. Asked about the old one. They said to dispose of it. Warranty support was super smooth without any issues or second guessing. The support is what made me continue to invest in the ecosystem. Been almost 5 years since then and haven't had any issues with other batteries / products since that initial one.

Remember people, this is a Top Handled chainsaw, it's designed for arborists in trees.

    • Is it that much of a dealbreaker? I'm only familiar with the stock standard stihl type. The trees I'm looking at chopping down are under 30cm diameter, would this be okay for light use like that, or is it too much of a safety risk?

      • sounds like you don't need $500 chainsaw, get an ozito or ryobi for half th price.

      • It's not a safety risk, it's just a matter of right tool for the job. This only comes with a 12' bar, although it can fit a 16" bar.
Ideally you have the bar longer than what is being cut.

Have read of this as a guide - https://onevantool.com/blogs/news/what-size-chainsaw-do-i-ne…

  • I've had a few batteries die before and after the 3 year warranty period. I hadn't registered for the warranty so tough luck.

I had another battery die well within the 3 years. The battery was registered, but didn't chase it up until 1 month after the 3 years and they told me to get lost as the warranty is 3 years and not 1 day more.

So, in my experience the products are ok and it is my fault I didn't get the batteries sorted under warranty.

    • Should have pushed the ACL route

    • I only have 2 batteries, and they both have had issues. 1 is a 2.5Ah and that basically won't charge above 25%, I do the drop technique and every now and again that works and it charges to full. The battery started doing it after 2 years but I lost the receipt. Other battery is the older 5Ah, it's lasted longer but it's temperamental too, seems to overheat easy and sometimes won't charge to full.
It's enough to put me off EGO combined with the many other stories of people having battery issues. Never had a battery issue on Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt or Ozito, I know none are perfect but EGO battery seems to be their weak point.

  • So its chainsaw + 5ah battery plus an additional 5ah battery via redemption?

Be careful, I was about to buy a few days ago. You can only equip the battery on the battery backpack and have to connect using the cord attachment.
This does not allow battery to be put on the chainsaw directly

    • Thanks good to know I was about to do the same just now but would the non commercial version

      • Non commercials have it on the chainsaw.. anything starting with CS should be fine.
        CSX is commercial

        • That can be interpreted that all EGO Commercial Chainsaws have the battery on a tethered harness instead of the chainsaws body. This is not the case. It is only this specific saw, the CSX3000 that uses the harness (not backpack) for the battery. This helps reduce the weight of the saw, allowing the battery harness to clip onto a waste belt, your thigh or anywhere you wish.

The CSX5000 has the battery on the saw's body as per normal.

FYI the comment/review is gold for this product

2x 5Ah batteries for $500 is decent for this brand.

    • If I had the need for 2x 5Ah batteries this is the way I'd be buying them today.

  • I recommend ego tools even though I don't recommend the EGO LB6500E blower. I had an LB5800E for nearly 5 years with a lot of use but it finally stopped working just before the 5 year period and it was repaired. About 2 months after the warranty expired it died again and as a measure of good will the sent me a new EGO LB6500E.
I used it for approximately 20 minutes and heard a click when I pressed the turbo button. That was the end of that when pulling the trigger the light on the battery would come on but no power. So they send me another EGO LB6500E and that did the same thing ,after looking on YouTube it appears a frequent problem something in controller box in the wiring apparently blows. So I have 2 new blowers that don't work. I can buy the wiring loom for $170 but that has only a 1 month warranty I pulled one apart and it's not difficult to install. So Ego service is great but this particular blower has a batch of faulty controllers in the wiring loom. I would much prefer another EGO LB5800E but they are not made anymore.
