Same here
HD 660S2 is also good.
Those for this price and I'd be in.
I have both 6xx and 600, and can definitely recommend the lineup. For the price range of 300-350, they're good long term investment (durability & quality).
they're good long term investment (durability & quality).
They are, if someone is looking for open back headphones.
Personally, I prefer closed-back, so that I do not 'disturb' anyone around me.
I was looking into some Hifiman headphones (Ananda Nano or Edition XS). Anyone have experience compared to these? I’ve heard good things about the Sennheiser but don’t really want to buy an amp and Hifiman have low impedance. For reference I’ve currently got Sennheiser 599SE if anyone has a recommendation.
don't buy hifiman. don't listen to the review hype where they just listen to it for 1 day and never own it long term to see it blow up after 6 months and hifiman refusing warranty or when they do fix it, they send refurbished headphones with scratches on them back,.
Think this worry can be shared for most planar headphones.
I've heard they've improved their QC a lot from where it was a few years ago but it's still a gamble.
I personally can't tell the difference between running my 6XX/650 with a $250 DAC-amp, a Pixel USB-C to 3.5mm converter, and motherboard output. All can get to pretty loud volumes, much louder than what's comfortable for me.
IMO, you don't need an amp for the 6XX/650 as long as your source is somewhat decent. I've seen many people online say the complete opposite and that it "scales with your amp" and "the bass is much better with a dedicated amp", but to my ears they sound exactly the same.
I prefer my Edition XS. Mids are better on the Sens but the bass rolloff really bothers me by direct comparison to the Hifiman.
I sincerely doubt the Hifiman would take much abuse. Sennheiser are built to last.
I have both the 6XX and the Edition XS.
6XX were great and my go to for about 1.5 years run off a Fosi K5 DAC (~$50). Upgraded my setup a couple of months ago. Now running a Ifi Zen Dac v3 (~$250) w/ Edition XS. Did a bunch of initial testing and I just can't see myself going back to using the 6XX. Edition XS are pretty good value since the price drop earlier in the year and can be bought for retail at $450.
I prefer a warmer sound signature and would lean towards rock/prog/heavy metal as my most popular genres however do listen to almost everything. To me the planar edition XS have a wider sound stage, much better bass and provide better separation which suits my hearing taste more.
The 6XX are comfier (even vs running a headband strap on the edition XS) so that's something to consider. I do have large head though so if you've got a normal size head or if you mainly like acoustic/vocal music go for the 6XX, however IMO the edition XS is noticeably better for everything else.
These are better for accurate rendition
Very VERY neutral which makes them very unassuming
bit forward on the mids… Vocals sound Great on them
but it's lacking a bit of subbase
You will need a DAC/AMP for these, they get better with power..
I have the HD 6XX and Edition XS. I mostly use the Edition XS unless I'm craving something a bit 'closer' and/or 'warmer', especially in instances where vocals shine. If the 599SE are anything like the 6XX then the Edition XS are a nice logical upgrade IMO. I also have a Topping DX3 Pro+ which has come in incredibly handy as I was able to hook my speakers up to it (Adam D3V) and manage them both through one sound output on Windows.
Seems like a good discount, but it as far as I know it's essentially the same as HD 6xx which is about this price normally. Would this be a better choice?
The 6XX and 650 are reportedly identical apart from branding and colour. This comes in grey, the 6XX comes in black.
I assume warranty might be easier than the 6XX (which is imported from the US), but these headphones will almost never break if you treat them well.
6xx is dark blue for the last few years
Oh wow, I swear my 6XX was black until I put it beneath a bright light! It definitely has a blue tint but it's very subtle under normal lighting IMO.
Just got the HD6xx. These are excellent, just make sure you have a suitable amp to drive them.
I have the 6xx, but find them tught on my head. Wondering if anyone has dealt with this, without ruining them?
HD 6XX's are still $280-290 on sale quite frequently. Same headphones, big price difference.
These are really good regular headphones (i.e. wired). If I did not already have these, I would buy them again.
