  • Anyone has this? Does it work well? What are the cons?

    • Dunno but I got one.

Used an ice cream maker once and it was much easier to get a tub at the shops for $5. 😌

      • But you can control for healthier and custom ingredients and A2 (A1/BCM-7 removed) milk. Way more control and versatility. The Kmart one you linked is fine too.

        • I got one ages ago. Can’t remember the brand but I had to go buy fresh cream and fruit and ingredients to make the ice cream and it was just easier to just pick a tub of 1L at the shops. 😅

If you buy one, just make sure you’re prepared for the hard work or it will just sit in the cupboard.

@ne-us: Sorry to pop your bubble but that's how home cooking works

      • Those aren't ice cream - they are ice cream flavoured deserts.

    • Make sure to chill the ice cream mix down before churning. Should work ok

    • It's got good reviews and It's only $54 so you can't go wrong!

That looks legit. Would be great for mojitos ;)

I’ve been thinking about buying an icecream maker. Might try this and then consider a Ninja if I find myself using it a lot. Thanks!

  • I went with the 1.5 litre Cuisinart for $75.
    Can add mix-ins.
This one seems like a blender.

    • You can add mix in in the 0.5L one too. See product page and the manual. If you have a family, the 1.5L is better anyway.

So they all basically work the same right? You freeze the bowl and it just mixes the milk + ingredients in.

Don't see why you'd need to pay more than $19 for the kmart one, they're basically a mixer with no compressor

    • Yes, you can make ice cream in blenders but you won't necessarily get the right consistency. Some blenders are also kinda bad with added mix-ins.

    • In theory all the same principle, but:

Some don't scrape the sides properly. Some have less gel in the bowl so it doesn't stay cold long enough. Some are made of thin metal so the bowl corrodes within a shortish time.

I have two ice cream makers like this - one with a compressor and one without.
Then I got a Ninja Creami. Never used the ice cream makers again.

    • The Creami is decent if you can get it for ~$170 or the deluxe for ~250

    • Can you explain why? I’ve been thinking of getting a creami but so many reviews from ice cream connoisseurs say it doesn’t taste like ice cream. What do they mean?

      • The ice cream I make is very quick and easy, has lots of flexibility, and is probably more of a gelato than an ice cream if you want to be pedantic but it is still extremely rich and delicious. But I don't use the Creami recipe. I found it to be not great.
I suppose the main reason why I prefer the Creami is simplicity.
I whip up my base recipe - which is just 50% cream, 50% milk, condensed milk, and a sugar - I was using glucose syrup but switched to agave syrup because it is less fiddly and messy - then I add a spoonful of pudding powder to each quart to help with texture, whatever flavours I want (typical flavours I use regularly are peanut butter/nutella, vanilla choc chip, rose and white choc, biscoff, and I made a honey maple and pecan the other night that was magnificent.
Then chuck them in the freezer for 24 hours.
        Simple.
