Apparently this is PTFE (Teflon) free and uses a ceramic coating instead?

    • -1

Thanks for this. Looking to replace my Instant. According to Perplexity, this specific model has the ceramic coating.

    • "Ceramic" is just another nonstick plastic

    • PTFE coating is applied over the ceramic coating.

      https://ninjakitchenapac.zendesk.com/hc/en-au/articles/64910…

The exclusive Ninja ZeroStick coating is PTFE based and applied over the plasma ceramic treatment.

The plasma ceramic particles refers to the plasma treatment. This is a pre-treatment done to the aluminium vessel to increase the cooking surface durability.

Plasma is applied before the PTFE coating is applied. Plasma ceramic particles are fired on the pan at 17K degrees which changes the chemical composition of the aluminium to make it a more rough and bumpy surface at a microscopic level. This rougher surface allows the ZeroStick coating to fall in these bumps and crevices which makes the coating last longer than traditional non-stick coating that wear away down to a smooth aluminium surface.

      • ZeroStick coating is for their pans.
They claim their air fryer coating is Teflon and PFOA-free.

That page is specific to the AF160 model. I can't see anything on their website which says that this model is PTFE/teflon free.

Some digging revealed this review and response from Ninja from here: https://ninjakitchen.com.au/products/ninja-air-fryer-pro-xl-…

which suggests that there's some kind of PTFE or equivalent coating.

          • @gyrex: Thanks for sharing the information. When I was in the market for a new air fryer, I specifically wanted a PTFE-free one and spent a healthy amount of time researching. The Ninja air fryer was recommended by Choice and several articles as a safer option due to ceramic coating; however, having diving into this a bit after reading what you shared, I have reasons to believe it is not exactly PTFE-free as I had been led to believe. I should have gone with a glass-basket model instead.

            • @deliriouss: No worries mate. I'm also trying to find PTFE free ones because I'm not only am I sick of the coating eventually wearing out quickly but I'm somewhat worried about the health impacts of the coating itself.

I'll also be buying a glass one.

  • I was deciding between the tefal and this one from Philips. My existing Philips is blowing cool air so need a replacement. Decided to go with the Ninja one. Prefer buttons over touchscreen

    • I had a Philips one that lasted 15 months, the base of the basket burned through with a hole. I bought the model in this post for $126 two months ago and happy with it so far. I wanted something PTFE‑free, dishwasher‑safe, with good reviews, this seems to fit the bill.

  • Additional $15 off promo code was available to me that brings it down to 107.55

    • Is there a generic code or targeted?

      • +1

Unfortunately can't seem to find it again after clicking the $15 off. At checkout just says $15 discount applied. Likely targeted sorry

      • +1

I believe it's generic and $15 off kitchen appliances and other kitchen stuff. It should show up if an item qualifies.

        • Nah no luck for me

  • Why am I only see one option at $299? Can’t see the discounted price of $129

    I have Prime membership

    • Physical location? Are you in regional Australia or capital city? It may not be available to you or you can’t get it at the discounted price

      • Regional. That must be the reason

        • +1

Amazon is starting to suck for regional and remote Australia. I would ideally like to have this delivered to regional Australia but it’s not available there. My Sydney address no problem

          • @Gunnar: Won't ship to regional SA, but will ship to a NZ address with no additional postage.

            • @michaelr74: lol yep - I wanted it shipped to regional SA as well

    • I just updated the deal link to force the Amazon website to show you the Amazon AU listing, and you should be able to see the following message:

This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location.

  • I'm in the same boat. Probably excluding certain regions even though we pay for prime membership.
