  • It's not clear what will we get - I assume we will get the perpetual base software. But when I briefly checked Luminar website, it doesn't have the subscription base licence now. Anyone can help clarifying this? Thank you..

      It's never clear what they actually offer. All those presets are completely pointless if you have any clue at all about photo editing and if you don't you shouldn't assume that presets are going to help you. You'll spend more time looking through presets than you would have spent just understanding how to edit.

      From my experience, the base luminar photo editor is extremely basic, and with a tiny amount of practice you could get the same kind of results in GIMP or Krita. All the fancy stuff they advetise is all part of add-ons that you pay for seperately or as a bundle.

      I looked at all this a couple of years ago, the last time someone offered a bundle like this. In the end I gave up. A company with such a convoluted payment model is trying to rip you off some way or other and I don't have to know exactly how to know to stay away.

      I wish I could recomment darktable or rawtherapy but they are both awful to use. If you can stand the terrible UIs, at least there aren't any hidden traps.

      • I was using Luminar for a while but moved over to Darktable as the performance of Luminar was poor in 3 & 4 despite a powerful PC. Darktable is a bit convoluted as there's so many modules that do the same thing but once you decide between either Filmic or Sigmoid, you realize you only need to use a couple of standard modules to get great looking images out of it - and parametric masks are amazing.

    Just be aware they for the last few versions, Luminar release and entirely new version and stop updating the previous one entirely (often including any outstanding bugs). I'd wager that they're about to release a new Luminar and this one will be left in the dust.

      Timing would be about right. Last "release" of Luminar: 2018. Neo came out in 2022. What's next?

  • Just bought this.

    In my account it states the license is for:
    * Lifetime (1 activation)
    * Upgrade Pass 2024-2025
    Includes:
    Lifetime access to all features released during both Big Releases (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025)
    Generative tools access (GenExpand, GenSwap, GenErase)
