The model numbering is so confusing. This normal version 15 is better than the Pro yet same price as the 15T Pro

Bonus REDMI Pad 2 (8GB+256GB) worth $399 with 15T Pro?
Also, MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ on 15T Pro vs Snapdragon® 8 Elite on 15
A comparison between 15, 15T Pro and 15T is here

    • Wait, what?

The T Pro line has always been different - since when is the "#" better than the "# Pro"?

      • +4

The T line has always been below the numbered line.

        • Yeah my post wasn't exactly clear, serves me right for being up late.

What I meant was, since when does the hierarchy go 15T Pro < 15 Pro < 15

    • It's because the 15t pro is brand new and the 15 came out 7 months ago in most other countries. But they are pretty close in specs too.

    • +15

Lol Apple yes, but Huawei second and Xiaomi third. Get a grip mate.

        • +3

Chinese residents don't care about Google apps since they're blocked anyway.

@Vic-10: I am not agreeing with your racist hatred. China is smart to not allow a hostile foreign power to control every aspect of their digital life, like we do.

                • +6

@Vic-10: No, I just am not naive enough to think any side is innocent and/or trustworthy. China is not worse than USA.

      • +5

Actually Huawei overtook Apple in sales..
        https://www.heraldgoa.in/goa/huawei-overtakes-apple-in-china…

Apple is slowly dying in China as people don't want US based phones as much as they used to.

          • @Vic-10: You obviously never used or SEEN the top end Chinese Huawei phones then. The Huawei Triple Fold costs way more than a shitty iphone and is stunning in comparison. That's the standard of rich Chinese these days.

            • -7

              @bchliu: No google store…… Maybe the Chinese won't mind…

          • +1

@Vic-10: Lol how do you come up with that assumption?

    • BS. There is a decline in foreign brands in China as their own domestic brands are now maturing and taking over dominance and Chinese disliking the Trump fiascos that forced them to support their own brands.

I mean… propaganda lol. But yes, cheaper phones means more sales generally.

        • err.. Propaganda from sales figures? Or just rejection of reality?

  • The whole 3G shutdown forced me out of my Mi10. I'd love to get back into a Xiaomi, but it's hard to justify getting rid of a 12 month old Pixel 9 Pro XL for it. Other than the battery needing a charge twice daily.

    • Its a corded phone if its hooked up that long everyday. But why does the 3G Shutdown force you out of Mi10?

      • +3

I lost 3 Xiaomi phones to the 3g shutdown - Basically the Telco's blocked grey market phone imei's rendering the phones useless in Australia! Tried arguing with them but they refused to help so ended up having to buy another phone late last year!

        • How do telcos differentiate between grey and locally sold? Like my mum uses a 5g poco phone that i got from Amazon UK via Amazon AU. Will that be a grey market mobile too?

        • Don't believe that about grey import

I have an Honor 6 Lite (5G), which I bought in Europe and it works perfectly. Same story for Poco phone from Europe
I also have an Honor 6 Pro (5G), also purchased in Europe, but it stopped working in Australia last year. I suspect it's because it doesn't support some of the Australian network bands (?).

          • @rwt: No - it's definitely being IMEI blocked - There are listed IMEI numbers which were specifically blocked. There are Telstra/Optus sites to check by using the 1st 8 digits of the IMEI (https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/department/media/news/find…) - supposedly it's because they couldn't support VOLTE but the Xiaomi/Poco phones I had all died even though it was supported - one was around a year old!

I did buy a Xiaomi 14T as a replacement via Grey import which works ok - but the point I was making is that now there is this control it's not guaranteed… It all depends on whether the Telco's decide to block them.. It's also different per Telco - e.g. I could still use an Optus sim in one phone but not the other for example..

A further annoyance is that overseas sim cards no longer work in Australia unless roaming is enabled - I have a Thai sim which I used to be able to receive messages and calls on but that got blocked after the 3g shutdown, even though it's a 5g sim!.

            • @evanssm2jp: Text message from amaysim last year (which is the Optus network)
amaysim: URGENT NOTICE: Hi ***** from 28 October the 3G network is switching off. Your Honor Magic5 Pro on 0481***** that you are currently using will not work. You need to upgrade your phone to continue to make calls, send messages and connect to the internet. Ignore this SMS if you have recently upgraded.

yep, it was Honor 5, not 6
All phones listed above are 2-year-old models now, all official EU models

Regarding the Sims I have 2 European Sims, both of them work fine (one physical, one esim)

I'm not sure what exactly didn't work or was blocked, just my experience

      • +1

Both my Mi10 Pro and my wife's Mi10 are blocked on Optus now. As the other thread surmised, there is an IMEI whitelist in place. Telstra and Voda have since relaxed the rules a little, but Optus has not.

        • I'll have to double check my Poco F3 that I've got laying around. I did try an Optus sim in it awhile ago with no luck so might give the Voda or Telstra a shot

        • Ah no wonder my Mi5 is not working. I was using it as a phone to recieve roaming international messages.

        • All my Xiaomis work on Telstra & Vodafone. DOES NOT WORK on Optus though!
Doesn't bother me as I don't use Optus anyway but only realised when I ported to Optus temporarily for a sim deal!

        • It's TAC block, not IMEI block. TAC is the first 8 digits of your IMEI, which defines a phone model.

    • Xiaomi works fine on Telstra & Vodafone. I currently have 4 phones in the house running with them over the last 10 years without issue.

DOESN'T WORK on Optus although i don't care anyway, don't like Optus but only found out when i ported a number there temporarily for a sim deal.

      • Yeh I'm using Optus, a lot of calls couldn't get through to me

    Where’s the 17 pro?

    • Might be a while for global release

    • +3

17 and hopefully 17 Ultra should launch in Australia by March at latest. Pros haven't left China since the 13 pro so wouldn't hold your breath on that.

      • +1

That late? Damn. I hoped they put a bigger battery on the 26 Ultra this year, but they dont want to. Shamesung. I will wait for the Xiaomi 17 Pro max.

        • There's a rumour that the 17 and 17 ultra will launch earlier than March, but far from confirmed.

          • @ChrisInMelbourne: That means deals will be available later on. Wont pay full price for phones ever. They are not worth the asking price.

        • Excited for the 17 Pro Max, after the Pixel 10 Pro XL cost, hoping its slightly cheaper, or see some better deals on the Pixel.

          • @XCelR8: Ya pixels will crash a bit once S26 launches.

  • I'm excited since I've imported every Xiaomi ultra since the 12s ultra, but disappointed to see they are not selling the highest end of the lines here. Even countries like Philippines get them.

Might try a Xiaomi 15 though since I like the idea of a smaller/lighter phone, especially in summer.

    • Selling an Ultra at 2000 RRP with discount to 1500 near the end of its life cycle doesn't sound like a good deal tbh.

Xiaomi is launching the 17 sooner than ever in China, and 1+15 is also launching globally in November. Global 17 series (only smol 17 and 17U) are not that far from now.

    • +3

With a comment like that I'm surprised you have friends.

    • Eh, I'd say they're nearly equal but depending on what features you value more.

      15T Pro has usb 2.0 while 15 has 3.2.
      15T Pro has 5500mAh while 15 has 5240mAh.
      15T Pro has 5x optical zoom, 15 has 2.6x.
      15T Pro has 12MP ultrawide, 15 has 50MP ultrawide.
15T Pro front camera can record 30fps, 15 can record 60fps.
      15T Pro has 3 mics, 15 has 4 mics.
15T Pro is AMOLED, 15 is LTPO AMOLED.

I believe the chipsets are fairly equal in perfomance, 15T Pro has a bigger screen than 15.

15 has ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, T pro doesn't as far as I can tell.

      etc, etc.

15 is flagship all around and slightly older.

15T Pro is 'mid-range flagship killer', meaning it compromises in some areas. But is newer so is also a bit better in other areas (like the battery and optical zoom).

Coming soon! What does that mean and what's the coupon. Official Xiaomi 15T pro price Hong Kong is A$900 vs special discounted price Xiaomi Australia $1099 normal price $1299. Yeah nah!
Australia tax at work even allowing for differences. Good though Xiaomi is setting up here to shake up the Telcos JBHifi cartel.

    • Means it's available and on sale from tomorrow as listed and detailed by OP.

Maybe you should just buy from the HK store then? Taking into account local stock, free delivery and AU warranty I think paying the extra couple hundred dollars is a no brainer.

      • +1

A lot of the stock overseas are not the global version instead a rooted version with the global ROM but still missing a lot of modems that support the Australian bands. This isn't always the case but it happens quite a lot. Just FYI.

Chinese models don't fully work in Australia so you are taking a big risk if it's not the Global Version. But I would personally go for the ones sold locally directly by Xiaomi.

I have the S25U but I wouldn't mind the 17 Pro. Would love a smaller proper Pro phone. Let's see if they will bring it to Australia at a competitive price.

  • Don't pull the trigger until this hits $600

    • -1

      Hit 400!!

  • Good to see a flagship phone with an IR blaster

  • +5

An outdated model is not worth $1k. Xiaomi 17 is released last month

    • +4

I agree. If it was 17 then maybe

      • Its a s26 utlra competitor/iphone 17 competitor with better battery and performance, no way you get it for 1K. The demand for it is too steep. This is more like the S25 ultra competitor at 1.1K.

        • I got my S25 Ultra in less than $1k, it's just the normal price in every Feb

          • @Leonard0880: Once a year brah! Not saying xiamoi is better, but if I wanted S25 Ultra now, I need to shell out atleast 1.4K on deals. Not interested in the enroll and exit stragegy.

  • My last experience with a Xiaomi device was nearly 7 years ago.
While I found MIUI to be good, I was annoyed by the sheer number of ads and the occasional pre-installed game I had to remove.

Has MIUI improved, or is it still showing a lot of ads?

    • +2

From what I've seen, the upcoming HyperOS 3 is really good, on par with OPPO's ColorOS (imo the best stock ROM)

    • there are no ads in their flagship range.

Hyper OS is much smoother than MIUI!

  • Not worth it. for $700-800 may be but definately not $1100. hell 1400 buys you samsung 25 ultra, throw that phone tothe wall and screen will not break (tried it with older version), it has better processor and camera. So Xiaomi 15 isnt worth 1100.

  • I will buy Xiaomi 17 instead.
