been looking at these a long time are they any good?

I have been using it for few years now. I can only say this is better than unfiltered. If you aren't renting, just get a proper water filtration setup would be better

just get a proper water filtration setup

Any recommendations? I'm a bit hesitant as reviews are full of water leaks.

    • No issues with leaks. Instead the water pressure drops a lot once you hit about 150L left (supposedly meant to use for 300L). And the plastic handle has started to squeak quite noisily now after multiple times a day of switching from tap to filtered water

    • Agree with morphine that if you own your place, best to look for a proper system.

We're renting and have been using this for the last couple of years: https://tappwater.com.au/
I did some research at the time to find a system that wasn't just marketing bs. Without going into too much detail, essentially a lot of those filters still let a lot through (not saying the one posted by OP does), and there are different levels of filtration and certifications. Using this article as a basis (https://www.choice.com.au/food-and-drink/drinks/water/articl…) I challenged them a bit about exactly what their system was capable of filtering and the certifications they have etc. They said their system had been tested according to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 (Aesthetic Effects) and Standard 53 (Health Effects). And they shared the results of their testing as well.

Not saying they're the best out there because I'm not an expert, but at the time I did my little benchmark they seemed like a solid option. We do see a noticeable difference in how the water looks and tastes. And we have now installed their shower filter as well.

    • They reduce chlorine significantly, so if that is good to you then they are good.

Really depends how cheap you get the filters. When I was using the model this rips off of (instapure), I got the cannisters for $1 each. So it was good then.

  • In before the micro-plastics comments.

Ps do a search, these have come up a few times with significant banter.

i got this from Coles special buys a few years ago for $35ish. got replacement filters from ebay and is running without leaks or issues for years

  • It’s a bit bulky, compared to the prev generation, might not fit on everyone sink, had both generations for almost a decade. Cheaper Brit’s filter from eBay, ($25x2) you can tell the difference with or without the filtration.

  • None left, alas. I was too slow.
