When you buy ice cream do you opt for a cup or a cone? Why?

I trust that OzBargainers can definitively answer the question: which is better value?

help me I had an existential crisis today while trying to decide

Cup for the kids (less chance of them dropping) and cone for me (like thr crunch texture).

I think cone is better value because you can eat the container.

      And reduces landfill :)

Honestly though, why not both and have a cup made out of cone?

    • Good luck telling the kid you are having ice cream in a cup and I’m having in a cone.

    Cup or Cone?

    Stick

    • spread the word out —- jv likes stick than containers

      • +4

only because jv can use it for stirring
        .

Also depends where purchasing from …

Some vendors - when getting a cone serve - the bottom last 5cm of cone is empty … No icecream.

    Cone always

I used to eat those 30 pack cones as a kid raw, was a great time. Then I’d eat the tub of ice cream afterwards
    Maybe I’ve got the tism.

    • +2

We've all got the tism. Some are brushed by it, others have been spear tackled.

I get cone and ask for a spare cup. I've never been refused.

Makes it easy for family to try another's ice cream.

    • cup for ease, takes longer to eat (thus savour), but not-enviro-friendly (have to throw away cup & spoon after);
    • cone for taste (enviro-friendly as you leave nothing behind), but too quick to eat (lick lick lick…erm it's gone already?!?!?) and thus don't get to REALLY enjoy/savour it.

Waffle cone every day of the week.

    • Waffle bowl better. More waffle.

    • Yes! It's called a Unicorn!

Waffle cone. You eat the container and added taste.

Depends on a lot for me:
    - Fresh waffle cone (hard to get) - definitely
    - Crappy cheap cone - hard no

Other types of waffle cones it is usually:
    - Cone in winter
    - Cup in summer

EDIT: I never thought input in so much thought into this

      thought

Does preference change between icecream and sorbet? I was always sorbet in a cup type of operator. Seemed odd to have sorbet in a cone.

      • +3

Nah but that’s only because I’m not a complex human, I just keep it to ice cream

I’m a simple man I like my cars fast, beers cold, and you know how this one ends ;-)

  • Just had a thought, what about those cones which are cups?

  • -2

    Cup.

    Cone is gross/pointless.

    • +2

It's literally yummy and practical lol.

  • Cup for those who have dirty hands
Cone for those who have clean hands

  • If the cone is 'waffle' then cone if the cone is the generic cone that taste like plastic cup

  • Just get a few samples for free.

Hard to share a cone and much cheaper to get 3 scoop cup than 3 single serves cones. l will buy singles cones if alone or nowhere to sit with family.

    • s. l will buy singles cones if alone or nowhere to sit with family.

How do you hold all three cones whilst you're alone?

  • Definitely a waffle cone! Luckily most places don't charge extra for it (yet).

  • Cone - Better for the environment

  • Almost always cone, Messina, Gelatissimo, whatever.

The only time I get cup is when I go to Rivareno Gelato Barangaroo and get the Cremino Dark, It's better savoured without a cone. If you're in Syd/work in the city/near Barangaroo, probs the best gelato I've tried in Aus. Messina's dark by comparison is both weak, and overly sweetened (which dark shouldnt be)

  • Cup because I cant adult
