Thought I'd post this as even though it's been cheaper in the past, that was before the latest price rises. Cheapest way to play GTA6 next year.

The only legitimate use case for this in 2025 is Dev Mode and emulators.

Investing in the Xbox ecosystem now makes zero sense. I say this as an Xbox fan of nearly 20 years.

When I saw this deal my first thought was "Oh the fire sales are beginning, wonder if it will be sub-$200".

    • Having been with Xbox since the original, if they go under $200 then I'll definitely be picking one up to put in another room of the house to compliment the XSX in the main room.

        • Guessing people voting this down think it's GamePass Streaming.

      • Don't forget to factor in the expansion ssd storage, but I guess you probably already have one for your Series X.

        • 1Gbps internet means I've never been able to convince myself to get one. Especially with Cloud Gaming allowing me to scratch the itch to play random games as a once off.

Network share is a function for multiple consoles on a shared LAN though.

          • @RaijnAU: The best quality of life feature on Series X is the fast resume, but can't put in our own SSD kinda crippled it somewhat. My cheap GamePass Ultimate subscription will run out mid next year. I am thinking about whether to continue to support XBox or time to let go. My PC has a more powerful GPU.

            • @netsurfer: Yeah with a PC it's hard to justify a console unless you enjoy plonking down on the couch and picking up a controller occasionally (and rare console exclusives).

I'm sticking out to the end having started at the beginning. I also don't have time to justify big money on gaming these days so will ride out cross-gen as long as I can.

How so? It's the cheapest way to play in 1440p and can pick one up from MP for $150.

      • +2

        How so?

        • Only marginally cheaper than a PS5 Digital when on special, which is much more powerful.
        • No more exclusives, so the PS5 will eventually have the same games.
        • Expensive subscription service.
        • More and more games suffering quality compared the XBSX beyond just resolution.
        • Very limiting included storage and very expensive to expand.

can pick one up from MP for $150

Great. But I'm commenting on this deal. Not random Market Place deals.

        • Nope, the point you're making is to the use case of a SS in 2025, and investing in the XB eco system makes zero sense.

          • Second hand the difference in price is about 2-3 times more expensive for a digital PS5
          • Most have no subscriptions player base for F2P is grater then it is for paid titles
          • Noticeable quality dip compared to the SX for newer games is marginal
          • Again not everyone plays multiple titles and needs 10TB of storage lol
    • Hard agree. I do have some point in keeping mine as fifa and nba2k still have pretty bad/no crossplay with console players which basically equals dead lobbies - but I haven’t played those games for a while anyways so am half considering selling my Xbox.

And will 100% be selling it if EA and 2K fix those issues

These can be had on marketplace for 220-250 in new condition. Would go there first.

Microsoft's new pricing with gamepass was a big mistake. So many are cancelling.

Good thing I waited at the last minute to redeem my free 3 months from my gaming laptop. Just bought it. I'm loving the game streaming. It just needs 30Mb/s.

Anyway, I've turned off recurring payments. I'll only ever get it again if my MS rewards points can cover another month of it.

    • +1

Unless 50% of users cancel, MS won't lose money.

  • GTA6 will be on this?

    • Yep, same as how GTA V was on the PS3 and the 360 - Rockstar deserves some credit for being able to wring the utmost performance out of old tech.

It'll run at 30fps, but that's not different to what the PS5 Pro will be getting anyway.

      • +4

        It'll run at 30fps

        It will target 30fps.

but that's not different to what the PS5 Pro

Well the PS5 Pro will probably hit the target more consistently.

        • Very valid points

        • Xbox Series has VRR with LFC so with the right display, will hopefully not be too noticeable if R* can't hit their target.

      • Yep, same as how GTA V was on the PS3

Well GTA V released on those as they had an install base of 10 of millions, vs one year of the PS4 and Xbox One.

        • vs one year of the PS4 and Xbox One

The PS4 and XBone (Nov 2013) were both released after GTA V (Sep 2013). It wasn't anything to do with install base.

I'm sure Rockstar could have made a huge packet from MS and Sony if they'd changed it to an 8th-gen console exclusive launch title instead! But that would go against their (successful) strategy of trying to get the players to re-purchase the game on every new platform.

          • @Switchblade88: Not sure if this kind of thing would happen with the series S though. Technically, the series X and PS5 base are the main consoles of this generation. Based on the graphical fidelity shown in the previews, it would take a lot of compromises for it to run on a series S.

  • May as well wait for an everyday market cashback offer.

Only way I'll be getting a new Xbox is if they bring that $400 half price series X deal from NZ Costco's to AUS

  • I used recommend this to the average little jimmys and his mums not anymore

  • Bought one for $150 or $200 in 2021 from market place. Used during the crazy deals on game pass. haven't even turned on since 2022. It's a dud platform lacing the identity and now with riding costs of subscription it's no use

  • One of my favourite consoles, awesome little bugger. $349 or $369 bigw deal years and years ago

  • And people still blame Don Mattrick for current day Xbox. Don gave Xbox a bit of a touchup with some poor messaging around the One launch (still had great software). Spencer’s been waterboarding the brand for years until Nadella finally stepped in and finished the job. Disgraceful mismanagement of the brand.

    • Microsoft is good at killing most things

      • +2

I'm still waiting for them to kill Teams.

  • Will this play Crysis?
