2027 is the latest rumour. Plus if Sony are smart they'd probably use the same drive in the PS6 to save costs.

Smart, as in, it would cost Sony less because they wouldn't have to spend the R&D developing new hardware. So if that's greed, then sure.
@fatpizza: Greedy as well because we know very well Sony will not pass the savings (of utilising the sane tech) to the customer. Instead, they’d sell it at a premium.

Well, PS6 disc drive might be different or use a different connector, so people might want to wait if they want a PS6.
Correct.physical media usually gets cheap over time more than downloadable.
with the direction things are going, we'll be lucky if the PS6 has the capability to play physical media

Easy Cheesy Covergirl.External pc bluray drives are extremely thin, barely 2 cm, sony specifically makes them larger than normal and fits them on the side instead of the centre of that massive black thingy on ps5 to make them a hinderance and an eyesore, I'm thinking this would ease the backlash when they completely remove disks from ps6 and ending the disk trade ins.

My OG ps5 disc console - whist pretty amazing - is bored and starving for creative and innovative console pusher 1st party new titles. (Ie non-remasters, non re-releases and non ps4/ ps5 cross gen titles)
All we seem to be getting severely pales in comparison to the quality we did get during the 5th to 8th gen’s - and yet somehow Sony is stating ps5 is their most successful and profitable gen.
