I haven’t been in the market for a new iPhone 17 for years.
Am I likely to need to wait until at least Boxing Day for any kind of discount? Or is it more like mid 2026? Or never?

Just as well, from my understanding they have just been released,

Just buy now using giftcard at JB or Apple store to save 10%, there's no point waiting for iPhone to dropped in price unless you are waiting until mid-next year for another 10% drop. There's a reason 2nd hand iphone hold its resale value really well.
Have looked into this but have read a few recent horror stories about people spending thousands on Ultimate cards then not being able to convert them to Apple cards at JB or somehow having the $ stolen before they can convert. Also the 10% off deals don’t seem to happen very often - is it usually monthly?
It will happen next week at Coles and Woolworths. There is a risk like you mentioned, asks the gift card from the counter directly, dont take it from the shelves to reduce the risk of the card being tampered.
Or you could buy JB gift card from reputable ozb seller for 10% off, i personally have done this a lot. However, this way you are missing out on CC points if you are churning CCs
Thanks. What’s the risk in JB refusing to convert the Ultimate cards to Apple gift cards? Can the Ultimate cards be refunded?

Nice
Its been a pretty strong launch compared to previous years. For 15 and 16 we saw discounts from around November with carriers. Doubt they will do it so soon this time around. Id say by Feb you will see $X off iPhone over life of plan. Wouldnt expect any outright price discounting unless a retailer is looking to get rid of stock.
ROFL, it's Apple, you always pay the Apple tax … best you can do is discounted Apple cards :P
I reckon 2026 even via grey sellers
I'm waiting for the JB Hifi Telstra deal rather than a discount on the phone itself
There’s a $1200 credit offered by Vodafone, although it’s spread across 36 months so not really sure if that’s a good deal or not lol
I'm trying hard to at least find one in stock doesn't matter if discounted…
