Decent price, but since it's now discontinued I'll have to pass on this. Nor do I have eBay Plus - Do members here find it worth the price, especially if I only buy things occasionally? I have Amazon Prime because the free shipping pays for itself in one order, and Prime Video is decent. But I never really thought about getting eBay Plus

If you don't buy often I think it's worth it when it's ~$10.

You can just get 1 month of eBay plus for $4.99, to buy a single item. If you aren't eligible for a free trial.

      • Thanks, I see there's a free trial at the moment - is the free trial always available for first time eBay Plus members? I'm eligible, never had it before - but I may as well wait to use that trial for a time when I'm interested in a deal. Not interested in this one.

        • Yes a free trial has always been available for new users. Something might come up around Black Friday.

    • Depends on what you buy, i find some better items on ebay esp with the random coupons I get and the deals.

      Example:
Iwatani gas stoves I cannot find on amazon that isn't exorbitant in prices but can find on ebay.

Dreame wet/dry vacs i been getting off ebay for ~100 cheaper than amazon at it's lowest prices.

Other things amazon beats ebay hands down but I've made a decent amount of 'savings' from ebay deals over amazon over the year to justify the membership price.

    • Every year you try to cancel they give you a $30 coupon. That makes it $20 for me. If there is no coupon then its not worth the asking price.

$299 at JB Hi-Fi with Perks.

        Perks expired on the 13th.

        Back to $499 now

  • Is this the new version?

    • -1

No, this line is discontinued so it's definitely not new. The new Dyson stick vac is the V16 I think, if each generation has goes up by one, this is 8 generations old. I'm not 100% sure that's how it works though.

If you mean new version of the V8, I have no idea.

      • Got confused with new version of v8 cyclone

      • +2

Dyson notoriously continue to keep product lines alive so they create the illusion of choice and value. Anyone else flogging the same shit they manufactured 15 years ago would, despite having 'upgraded' it 45 times since then, would never moved product. But Dyson marketing seems to work.

    • That's the Car + Boat one, virtually a reskinned V8 minus some accessories which is the same price currently https://www.dyson.com.au/car-boat-vacuum-586122-01

    • +1

Why do people put so much emphasis on newer versions? I've got a Dyson corded vacuum from 18 years ago that is still performing as it should despite newer models superseding it.

Is the battery replaceable on this model?

    • +1

Yes, 3 screws to remove. Only 3rd party batteries available for these now.

Having had one since 2016 and tried a v11, the newer ones are much better if you can save.

      • +3

The converters that allow you to use your power tool batteries work better

      • +1

thank you. not sure why i got downvoted lol.

  • Okay it's fine. But it's tough not having one touch trigger in 2025.

    Also no medium mode.

And would prefer a fluffy head for hard floor but the brush seems to work.

    • +1

you can get a small tool whic holds the trigger dpressed

  • I'm tempted at this price, even if old model. I still have my V6,, live in small unit but works fine still and does what I need it to do. Use every other day.

I would say it not what it is but does the V8 fit into what your needs are and in your budget.

    • it will need a service, they get clogged up inside, either youtube for DIY, find someone local or dyson service centre. The V6 is still great for what it is

    • I still have a DC58 but it still works fine. Replaced the battery and replaced the clear dust collector, seems like all the parts except the motor are easy fixes. Always tempted by these deals though…

    • I upgraded to the v8 from the v6 and can say it was worth it, especially if your v6 is ageing like mine.

Super quiet, smooth gliding movement and best of all, no more hair tangled in the motor head brush. Emptying the dustbin is also much better and leaves nothing behind.

Even the newer ones can't match the suction power of an average corded Shark. Why would anyone buy this if it can't even properly clean a carpet? I'd rather deal with the struggles of the cords.

    • +1

It's not the suction that cleans, it's the mechanical head.

That's why cordless vacuums weren't popular until Dyson came around.

      • absolutely correct, stick ones are most usefull on hard floors and on rugs for picking up things with the motor heads, but not that usefull to extract dust.
Btw I'm using ozito one which was available for short period of time in bunnings last year I guess, really happy with it

there were a couple of comments implying that this isn't a good purchase because it's been discontinued. can someone explain to my dumb ass what's the problem if it's been discontinued?

is there some kind of warranty problem? or is this product fundamentally flawed as compared to similar ones?

    • not at all, dyson warranty is very good & easy to deal with it, this is a good Vac weak point is the bin clip but not expensive if broken

      • +1

right. so i'm still curious why people are raising its discontinuance like it's a problem.

        • +1

          human nature…….

got a refurb V8 Absolute from their eBay in August for $319 with eBay plus code

was a smooth experience except the battery was DOA and I had to contact support to get a new one (free of course). they sent me wrong one first, second one was right, and I sold the wrong one for $20 had like 100 people contact me about it on FB MP lol

    • $20 for the original battery is too cheap hence so many messages. I paid around $40 for a knock off one on Amazon. The knock off battery capacity deteriorated significantly after a year.

  • I don't have carpet, and I have V6 at the moment and looking for an upgrade. This or Dreame H12 Pro Wet and Dry?

    • personally the dyson warranty / after service & availability of parts & aftermarket would sway my decision
