      Packaging damaged if anything. Condition listed here. Some packaging damaged, some like new which should just be new with a 'warehouse' sticker on the box since there are 100's. Amazon aren't selling 300+ used board games.

    Amazon AU should be ok, but be aware there are a lot of fake copies of this (Aliexpress, ebay, FB Marketplace resellers etc).

    I've bought a number of games "Used - Like New". Some of them have definitely been played and returned. Some with missing cards or pieces. I'm a bit more wary regarding buying games from the Resale/Warehouse. If the item says packing damaged then, that's what it'll probably be. If there is more than one in a listing then I would guess that the "Used - Like New" is probably new with very little to no damage with the rest priced according to amount of damage.

    TL;DR: I tend to trust packaging damaged board games more than Used - Like New.

      For single item listings, yeah that's a good point. If nothing is written next to like new, then it could be an omission rather than nothing wrong with it.

      We see something similar happen with short dated grocery items, where they just don't write the expiry date anymore like they used to. So if nothing is written, it is often the case that they are short dated, whereas a packaging damaged single listing you will probably get one with a normal/longer date and ends up being a better option to buy.

        I'm going to give Amazon the benefit of the doubt to some extent. If a game has been played once and all the pieces are there, then I'm going to give that a pass. I take the price into consideration of course. I don't buy a board game from the warehouse unless it's a really steep discount.

        The problem is with returned games, the person at Amazon looking at the game is not going to know if all the pieces are there. They'd just look inside and see if it looks clean or whatever. Maybe they should specify that the shrink wrap has been broken like they do with some books.

      Yeah, I bought a used copy of what was labelled as twilight imperium like new mint condition the listing had a picture of the expansion but the description was for the main game at that time, so I rolled the sice.
      It arrived with the side kicked in and it was the expansion. That said, I wouldn't let it deter you after a chat with customer service they refunded me, told me to dispose of, or keep the expansion and gave me courtesy credit for helping amend the listing. I don't think they've actually changed it at all, but credit is credit.
      Similar story with a used like new War of the Ring. It arrived with a split corner and it's appealing art work peeling off. Phone call later and they gave credit to the point of it being used acceptable instead. Their CS staff are always very reasonable.

    So confused with board game prices. Avalon is also $8 on shein in what I'm assuming is not a damaged box, but $45 at a local board game store near me. Why so much price difference?

      This one? it's $13.25 for Avalon once you click the specified item, and you have to spend $29 for free shipping. There would be some chance it would be counterfeit as well, see this review:

      As Maltopia pointed out, marketplaces are full of them. I am not familiar with Shein, but I know eBay are littered with them, you have to read the feedback carefully as I assume many would not realise they were fake if they don't have the original to compare with.

      Less chance of that happening buying from game shops or the retailer directly, but still a good idea to be vigilant regardless. If any problems/concerns Amazon will always refund you.

        Yeah i started suspecting fake copies.
        I purchased the Amazon one anyway so hopefully comes alright.
        Even then I'm not sure how i feel about fake versions as long as they are the same gameplay wise

          With pretty much all older small and med box games if you find a crazy low price on a market site, it's prob a fake.

          Coup, Resistance, The Mind, Sabotage, cockroach poker etc.
