I ended up with the Metapen A8 from Amazon, wife uses it for ProCreate and works really well!
I have an Apple Pencil 2 and 2x OG Apple Pencils from 2021 that still work like new. The 2 and Pro magnetically attach to the ipad for charging/storage, so unless you are leaving the ipad dead for extended periods, I don't think it is something you'd need to worry about.
I guess it's totally use case per person, still I think for the fact that if left without charge that it can become a dumb pencil is pretty wasteful

Something to note for people - do your own research, but from memory, some of the 'pro' features of the pencil do not work on the base iPad. I wanted those features but had to get the normal pencil as I have the standard iPad.
