Samsung Odyssey G7 G75F 40in WUHD 180Hz Curved Gaming Monitor $1,199 ($400 off) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Umart

240

Recently released 40-inch WUHD (5k2k) monitor from Samsung, discounted by 25% from release price. Same price at MSY etc and https://www.jw.com.au/product/samsung-odyssey-g7-g75f-40-wuh…

Surcharges: 0% direct deposit, 0.9% card, 1% fee on all other payments including Google Pay & Apple Pay.

Had my eye on this as (hopefully) the perfect monitor for 80% productivity (no burn-in or fuzzy text worries, extra vertical height welcomed) and 20% gaming. I might need a GPU upgrade to push it to its WHD limits, 1000R curve with a fast-enough refresh rate for my needs - my current go-to Snowrunner ain't exactly fast-twitch gaming! 😁

There are a number of compromises - it's a VA panel, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, but these will be fine for my needs - YMMV. I'm sure it'll come down more in the future but to my mind it's a decent discount on a relatively new monitor - just need to convince the financial controller that I need it…

<EDIT>

For anyone interested, this is about the best review I have read for the monitor: https://www.sweclockers.com/testpilot/41780-testpilot-samsun…

It's big, but most people are better off getting an OLED at this price if it's mainly for gaming and media consumption

      But… but… that's specifically NOT my use case! 😜

Spreadsheets, coding, documents, browsing, research for 80% of the time, light gaming when I get a chance, and it's not a stupidly wide and 'short' 49-incher - the wife would kill me if I came home with one of those…

  • Edge lit?

    Cheaper alternative: https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-40-curved-wuhd-5k2k-ips-u…

However, the specs aren't good for gaming and less curvature

Good to see another monitor in this format, but as you point out, yeah, nah… Also, Kogan will never get another cent from me after allowing my credit card details to leak many moons ago…

I used to have that Kogan monitor, but now I'm currently using this: Samsung Odyssey G7 Neo G75B 32in UHD 165Hz Curved Gaming Monitor

It's almost the perfect size for me. It's just a bit narrower than a 40" WUHD screen

        https://www.displaywars.com/32-inch-16x9-vs-40-inch-21x9

        • Yeah that extra width is pretty important to me from the productivity perspective, definitely makes having two browser workspaces open side-by-side easy.

I noticed that Umart are actually having a Samsung monitor sale, so the 37" version of the G75F (note with slightly different specs) is $300 off at $999: https://www.umart.com.au/product/samsung-odyssey-g7-g75f-37i…

Still waiting for a WUHD, high refresh rate OLED monitor around this price point. Getting close though.

    • Couldn't agree more but I think we'll be waiting for a bit 🙁

What's the closest WUHD OLED to this price range plz?
I thought the 45" is the only option and that's 3x this price.

That's just it, I don't think there really are ANY OLED options that come remotely close to this price range - happy to be corrected though!!

While I'm sure they would look amazing, my old eyes are well into the law of diminishing returns territory, so it's not worth that premium price for me. Even this monitor would be a massive upgrade from my current Philips BDM3470, which tops out at 60Hz at 1440p and isn't curved, which is such a pain to look at anything towards the screen edges.

    Drat, no USB-C (for work)

    • Plug into dock, plug the dock USB-c cable to computer?

      • Docks, dongles, wires, cables.. all antithetical to the minimalist look afforded by a monitor with USB-C and a dock built in
