Upgrading old Surface Pro to Windows 11

I am sure there are few people here who bought the old surface pro 5. I was wondering how are you going about upgrading to Windows 11 as says this device not supported for Windows 11.

Also, is it a safe thing to upgrade ? I mean computer is not going to slow down drastically, etc.

How 'old' is old Surface Pro? I still have a backup Surface Pro 3 with Win 10 that runs fine. There's no need to update it to Win 11 at all.

You can enrol for Extended Security Updates in the windows update app and stay on Windows 10 until October 13 next year. You just need to be signed into an online Microsoft Account.

  • I had a Windows 7 touchpad. When Windows 10 was released, a compatibility check said the hardware was not suitable. In their infinite wisdom, Microsoft pushed Windows 10 onto it anyway. It ran slowly. I pruned a lot of unnecessary crap Microsoft and other programmers seem to think are necessary in the background even when you don't use them. It ran better. Microsoft delivered a couple of Windows upgrades. Eventually, the day came when the dreaded incompatible hardware message arrived. This time from Microsoft. I needed to reset to Windows 7. By then it was unsupported. It now functions as a portable TV, using the Freeview app, but we haven't used it for about 18 months.

Summarising, just because it will doesn’t mean you should, but with Windows 10 no longer supported, you have nothing to lose. Worst case scenario is W11 fails to install or stops updating. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/install-windows-11-on-unsuppo…

    Did somebody mention Linux!

As they have ended life for Win 10 you have nothing to lose, there are many ways to upgrade and bypass the checks,
windows 11 will work fine on your pc.
