    Looking at your installation kits,
FYI, "first floor" means upstairs in Australia. You mean "ground floor".

  • Any YouTube guides on installing?

    • +3

      Only a million.
rule #1 is to get an install kit with pre-flared pipes. You may think you are good at flaring from LPG or water pipes, but aircon seals need to be perfect.
rule #2 is to use a vacuum pump, and not just try to flush out the air by releasing some gas.

Got a link to a 'usable' set of gauges and vac pump?

Will be no warranty for a diy install…but if you understand that it needs to be in vacuum to boil away any moisture, then you will also be capable of entering diagnostics and repairing a fan motor, or replacing a triac on the board from that rogue gecko etc …

Fujitsu couldn't repair our unit. Only offered all new boards $3000. I fixed it with a $26 transformer, $9 triac and $1 diode. .

        • I'm convinced 99% of board failures are the fine wires in the transformer breaking from the compressor vibration .
          • @Lolitsjoel: Looks the same as the Temu stuff ( if you can snare them with a 50% cashback).
But not a bad price for an .au store. Cheers

        • Damn I should have gotten you to repair my compressor board after it blew up when lightning hit the power lines outside my house. Fortunately the over voltage event was covered by the electricity distributor.

          • @0 0 0: Should be a MOV (metal oxide varistor) on the incoming power board that would have blown open to protect the board (that's its job).
Looks like a little balloon. Usually yellow or blue (depending on what voltage they went with).

            Would get change from $2.

            • @tunzafun001: The repair guy replaced the boards. I presumed there would have been protection but since insurance was paying I just let the technician make the call. The aircon installers told me I should replace the compressor and the four heads connected to it lol.

@0 0 0: Fair enough. Very few of the tech's understand how to repair boards these days anyway. If insurance would cover the compressor and heads…then sure why not (unlikely though).

Hot tip for future. If anything happens in the future, look out for an old TV repairer. These guys have the dieing skills to diagnose boards…. and most are still living 20 years ago and wont charge much at all.

        • Just use Gaffa and electrical tape. Blutack where needed

  • What's the best way to get these installed? DIY or get someone to do it?

    • +2

This is Ph.D.-level DIY. Do you have experience with plumbing and electrical? Perhaps regassed your car air-con?

Well worth paying somebody. Its not cheap, but a big job, especially if you've never done it before.
Not simple like installing a dishwasher or cooktop.

I installed one (an Aldi 3.5kw a/c) myself eight years ago. The electrics weren't difficult (licenced sparky) but there was more than a couple of hundred dollars cost in flaring tools, twin insulated copper piping kit, vacuum pumps, ducting kits and a bottle of goo that lubricates flare nuts etc. It was great as an exercise and the air con still runs well to this day, but as way of saving $$ I say let a local trusted refrigeration mob do their stuff as I have subsequently done

  • Anyone knows how much for installation?

  • Waiting for my 2x back ordered Midea 2.6kw for $566.50 each
