Why's that? I assume you're using apps that aren't ARM native?
Sounds like somebody who did zero research, I bought an X elite ages ago and cannot be happier… Everything I need to do runs ARM native and I get 3-4x the battery life of the x86 equiv. I use this as my work machine while travelling so its setup with all the dev tooling I need… WSL, code, docker desktop etc. Compatibility gets better by the day too… https://windowsonarm.org/
How does it compare to macbook Air for that sort of work? Same price for 16/512GB.
Lack of stability and reliability
My best laptop purchase in a long time. The Snapdragon processor is quick, battery lasts ages, my laptop no longer wakes itself up in my bag and drains itself, and it wakes from sleep as quickly as a phone. I upgraded from a HP Elite Dragonfly G3 (12th gen i7).
It's great that this device has found its audience. Have you tried loading it with something substantial such as CAD, software dev, lightroom, video editing etc.?
I'm don't do software dev but have used Fusion 360 for simple designs; I was surprised it worked fine. I use Lightroom on my tablet and desktop and Pr/AE/PS on my desktop; I haven't had a need to do it on my laptop. I've installed Photoshop and LR and they run, but I haven't had to edit anything on it.
So far the few oddball apps I run (e.g. Elitech logger, Falcon Design Space, GP Print Station, REW, CP210x drivers for ESP32, Avigilon) have been fine. The ones I don't expect to work don't, e.g. the software for my spectrum analyzer (no Oscium drivers).
For normal office type tasks (MS Office/Teams/Zoom/Slack/web etc), Snapdragons are really good. Everything works well and the battery lasts aaaages.
I use mine for dev — Typescript and Python under Docker Desktop/WSL2, performs excellent.
literally 0 reason to get snapdragon over Lunar Lake even battery life is better for Lunar Lake
Lunar Lake didn't look impressive to me when I looked. It's the better choice if you want to play games while plugged in, but if you use a laptop for non-game applications away from a power socket, it really doesn't look impressive at all.
Hopefully Panther Lake will redeem Intel next year.
Thoughts on whether the $1749 price is a good deal, or if it's worth waiting until Christmas sales? In the past the laptop has gone down to as low as $1598.
no its crap dont get snapdragon laptops, new Intel or AMD ones are just as efficient
Which Snapdragon laptop did you try and what did you find crap about it?
Which ones come with a sim slot?
For everyday stuff Snapdragon works fine. Especially if you use the ARM native apps. That being said if you want to even do some light gaming, it's going to be a challenge, much like how Intel's ARC graphics has been a challenge for older titles for Lunar Lake and Meteor Lake.
I say if you use Excel, Word, web browsing and just want something to type notes on and do some Uni/School Work and video calls it's great to use Snapdragon. The battery life difference is huge when you're on the move or away from a charger. If you want an 'everything machine' then look towards something x86, maybe best to wait for Intel's Panther Lake next year.

I wouldn't recommend a thin and light laptop for gaming, but there's a list of supported games here.

That really depends on what 'everything' is to the user. It will differ greatly from person to person.
I kept my old HP Elite Dragonfly in case I need to run apps are incompatible, but I've barely touched it as all my everyday apps work great.
It's "everything enough" for me, but might not be for everyone so it's definitely worth checking https://windowsonarm.org/ or google to see if all the apps a user needs will work fine. If they do, it's probably "everything enough" for them too.
Hopefully Intel finally gets their act together next year as competition is great. Switching to Snapdragon has really been a breath of fresh air for me after many, many Intel laptops. If the next round of Intel laptops still chew batteries and wake up randomly in bags, I'll have no qualms getting another Snapdragon laptop.
Most most regretful Surface purchase ever. Due to Snapdragon.
