Do I need a bottle from your company? Or can I bring in my own 9kg bottle?
any bottle is allowed, as long it is within the 10 year expiry date.
Showing as $34.95 on the website.
Also, how does this work (new to gas bottle refills)? Normally use swap and go at bunnings. Can I just take in an empty 'swap n go' labeled bottle to get it refilled or do I have to have a specific type of bottle
Yes pretty sure any bottle can be refilled at refill stations. My local charges $21 per refill
Any In nsw?
Yeah my local bp petrol station
I think it's the same rules for refills everywhere. The bottle needs to be within 10 years from the stamped date and is in a good, clean condition.
Any bottle can be refilled, just like any bottle can be used to swap 'n go.
Limit of 10 years. Some staff check, some don't. Any bottle with a black handle is probably okay.
Just to clarify, 10 years for refilling at a station.
If you have an old bottle, pay the extra for swap n go as they take any bottle. Then use the swapped bottle to refill next time.
From my servo days refills were only within 10yrs of the stamp date. Swap 'n' Go could be expired as they were all re-tested, restamped and repainted as Swap 'n' Go bottles before being returned to the pool of bottles.
Note: BBQ G is 9kg; others are 8.5kg.
Check if they'll mix and match - e.g. Bunnings won't take BBQ G bottles.
That’s a good point. I thought they state 9kg to round up - will have to seek clarification.
There is no such thing as a 8.5kg bottle they are all 9kg. Swap and go fill bottles to 8.5kg so that it eliminates manual filling. ie the bottles are emptied of remaining gas before filling then a measured 8.5kg of gas is used to fill. I cannot see why Bunnings do not swapout barbeque galore bottles?
@WV1: Why are they only measuring 8.5kg? To account for variations in bottles or to save coin?
I also can't see a Bunnings staff member giving a shit about bbq g bottles. No retail job is worth risking copping an earful from a Karen.
I gave up my 9kg BG one for an 8.5kg one for ease of refills. Worth it for the time saved having to go to BG for refills which took a while (plus one of the staff complained there was a smidgen of gas left and so I thought sod it and now never have to deal with them again.)
I was lucky. I had two free empty bottles, took them to Bunnings to fill at same time. Girl at the entry said not sure about the BG (I hadn't even noticed) and sure enough the gas guys didn't do the swap on the BG. I asked if they can at least recycle it? Nope. At least I went home with one full bottle.
Bring a bottle into store, any bottle that is in date (10 years from manufacturers date or recertification date).
Any swap bottle made of metal is fine, 9 KG is the limit galore can fill.
Can fill the old POL style (internal thread) and newer LCC27 (External thread).
Cannot be the green eco plastic bottles since these are not grounded during the decanting process.
The website has been updated to $19.95. The offer is also available in store.
For any swap & go bottles, yes we can fill them in store, as long as they are within a 10 year date range. If purchased online, how long do we have before we need to actually do the refill by?
Most BCF’s also do.. obviously depends on location as it needs to be done outside.
Says unavailable for click and collect
Call the store and check they have gas.
Any business filling gas bottles has the right to refuse a gas fills. Its likely that you can prepay since this doesn't meet the legal safety checks which include things like bottle date checks, bottle safety, customer not being a suicidal maniac etc.
Cheers, will do.
Only a few BBQ G stores do this.
Be aware that swap and go bottles are no longer stamped with a date. This means that many are out of date for refilling but can be swapped ok..
I ran into this problem while travelling outback.Super illegal to refill out of date bottles and sell them. Stock may have sat for extended periods past the ceritifcation date in rural areas. Double check the bottle hasnt been recertified. Swap bottles can be quite hard to find the date on sometimes.
No you are wrong. Swap and Go have a exemption from date stamping as all bottles are checked prior to filling. They are effectively self certifying that the bottle at time of filling is safe to do so. This has been the procedure for a number of years now.
Ah… this probably why I have not been able to find an unexpired bottle when doing bottles swaps. I did find one that was from 2017 one time, but it had the old style head.
What happens if a customer brings a lpg bottle that is older than 10 years to swap? Do they get refused?
@ATTS: No the date is no longer checked for swap and go as every bottle is tested before refill and no longer stamped with a date.
@ATTS: they check for rust inside and if the valve is ok. Some bottles have had a hard life eg on boats . i just swap n go out of date bottles at bunnings then bcf for refills from then on.
I've filled 1000's of gas bottles mate, definitely not wrong.
Swap and go (biggest swap brand) is owned by ELGAS. Straight from their website:
"Gas bottles that pass all of the tests are stamped with a new gas bottle expiry testing (LPG tank testing) date (LPG gas bottle expiry date), showing the month and last two digits of the year."
https://www.elgas.com.au/elgas-knowledge-hub/swapngo/gas-bot…
The relevant Australian standards you are claiming they have an exception to:
AS 2030.5: Gas cylinders, Part 5: Filling, inspection and testing of refillable cylinders
AS 2337.1: Gas Cylinder Test Stations: Part 1, General Requirements, Inspections and TestsIf you can provide evidence of their exception, i'm all ears.
@choumada: There website is out of date and has been for years. Ring them they will explain their policy to you as they did me years ago when I complained to them.
I suggest you go to Bunnings and try and find an in date gas bottle. Allow a couple of hours for this as you are going to need it.@WV1: "And all SWAP’n’GO gas bottles are always in date."
https://www.elgas.com.au/elgas-knowledge-hub/moving-home/gas…
Posted april this year
@choumada: imagine they’d be in the news if there was an accident and an out of date bottle was sold by bunnings or circulated by elgas. Also if you are tradie and bring one onto a site that is out of date the oh&s probably have rules,
They put it up to 34.95 so I stopped and go to BCF for refills for 24.95 I bought a bottle to have one spare in case swap n go bottle runs out in middle of BBQ/Baking in Weber
Wonder why they went back to 19.95 This was Member Price for past 2 years before their price hikeBro this is a refill service. You bring your empty bottle and they fill it up.
Associated needs to learn to spell their own business name 😂
Good deal though.
Great post and timing - mine just ran out. Thanks OP
Hey OP - my local store is Carindale in Brisbane. It says "sold out" of click and collect on the website, and then further down your site it says only these QLD stores are available for instore purchase: QLD - Gympie, Kawana Waters, Mackay, Rockhampton & Roma
Does that mean I can't just rock up to Carindale with my bottle and ask them to refill it?
The Carindale store might not have gas refill facilities available on site. Best to give them a call and double check before heading in.
They do, as this is where I refill mine.
Thank you for being more helpful than the actual employee of BBQs Galore!
Do you just turn up and take it in, none of the online click and collect rubbish?
@ham0718: No, just take it in. In the past they've asked for my email to prove I'm a club member to get the current discounted price. Not sure if this deal is club specific though.
@bbqsgalore How do you not know fi they have refill facilities onsite, very unhelpful to the OP
My local store is Carindale as well and I have the same issue with the website showing unavailble for click and collect.
I have done many refills here via click and collect before.Carindale was apparently at least an hour wait around 9am but Jindalee was quiet. Same price in store than the out of stock click and collect
can we price match at bunnings?
I called two of my local Bunnings and both said no price matches for gas.
Essentially, BBQG are doing a refill, and Bunnings do exchange. So not the same product offering.
Bummer, I have an empty bottle which is a fatter type that doesn't fit in my stainless steel cabinet for our outdoor wok, and wanted to swap for a thinner type bottle. Guess that bottle will stay empty for a while.
no, it’s one of the reasons besides safety of staff, why bunnings now do swap n go, they don’t need to price match places that do refills, not same product, one is swap service one is refill service. you don’t want a weekend junior doing refills as spiltnlpg on skin causes frost bite, bunnings have streamlined their process with swap n go and it suits their business model, don’t think they care if people want to drive to a place and get own bottle filled.
Gee it’s getting expensive for bottled gas.
Haven’t had to fill up a bottle in over 15 years.
I converted my BBQ to hook up to the mains, best thing I’ve done and never have to worry about running out of gas.Picnics? Camping? Going outside at all?
My BBQ isn’t really portable so don’t need to worry.
i have one hooked up to gas mains and one on bottle, yes the gas mains is cheap and convenient once jetted right, and you can get quick connect so it’s not just built but can also use for portable.
Mains is more expensive LOL
Can i bring in an old gas POL style (internal thread) bottle to swap with the newer LCC27 (External thread)?
Yes as swap and go will change the bottle tap to newer LCC27 before refilling. LCC27 will take POL hose connection.
Hey Rep, when did BBQ G start this sale/offer?
How long is the $19.95 price for??
Yeah, when did this price start, and when will it end?
Thank you! Sick of getting ripped off at 7-11 for $35
I'm in NSW and usually the Metro branded servos all refill the 8.5/9KG gas tanks for $23 tops. $19.95 is a deal!
in in inner city melbourne, the servos around me are swap n go now, don’t think they want casuals leaving counter to fill a bottle now a days, it’s if you want the bottle take it and pay, if not go else where there are other people wanting to pay for petrol.
OP can we get a deal on the 4kg as well? I've got 2x 4kg bottles which would cost almost 3x as much as 1x 9kg fill!
you can get an adapter and decant from 9kg into 4 kg bottle, costs about $10 on aliexpress and ebay, i decant into 2kg and 1 kg. use caution so you don’t make it into the news for wrong reason, if not confident, don’t do it.
Barbeques Galore but doesn't sell Weber hahaha
Should change their name to Some Barbeques
This is great, thanks!!!
Just checked mine, I have swap and go 8.5kg. I check the stamp date and seems like it is expired.
As I cannot use this bottle for refill, can I still use it for swap and go?
Is there any cheaper place in Perth for a Swap and go? Bunnings is currently around $31.
Yes, just use Swap and Go with your expired bottle, Bunnings won't check nor do I think they care. You might get lucky and get a new born bottle, as did I several years back, then your back in the refill game.
i’ve taken bottles that people dump on natures strip and bunnings swap n go. facebook has people selling refilled bottles that have been rebirthed via swap n go, they use the gas from swap n go and handed in old bottle from nature strip, get the new bottle refilled when empty and then sell a full bottle, easy way to make $20 if desperate, have 4 empty swap n go bottles they are rebirthed finds from nature strip when people move house, need to stop hoarding, as i only need 2, one full spare and one attached to bbq.
Called at 4.15pm (supposed to close at 5pm) and got an automated message "you have called outside the operating hours" 🤷
i guess this is good for those with empty bottles right?
like you wouldn't want to just top us existing bottle to get this deal or would you? like i dont even know how much gas i have left in my existing bottle (pretty sure at least half way) but yeahGreat deal! Popped into Campbelltown NSW on the weekend, empty bottle in hand and 20 minutes later grabbed my full bottle paid my $19.95 and off I went!
Note that this deal is not available at every one of the BBQ Galore franchises…
Still,at their regular price of $25 they're cheaper than Bunnings et al.
Showing $34.95
