  • plus delivery - also how/who do you go about getting cashback?

    • There's a cashback form with the pharmacy stamp that you get if you buy it from the store. You send it to Roche (Accuchek company) along with your receipt/invioce and they do the refund for you to the address you filled in via a cheque to your house

These things can often be had for free if you look around. They make money on the strips. A bit like inkjet printers.
People who actually need it can usually claim them on insurance anyway.

    • They do make money from the strips, but what you can do is go to a GP and ask them to prescribe Accuchek test strips and they'll be covered under the PBS (36.10) given you have a Medicare card. Or 5.90 for concession card holders.

  • I don't know how to redeem the cashback as I have not been able to get to the store to read the fine print. Postage is free for purchases over $99* currently. If you are near one just pop in obviously.

  • Estimated Shipping Charge:
    Australia Post $8.95
Express Post - Australia Post $12.31

Still I might ask my mother if this is of any use for her.

  • should be free already. don't mess around with dodgy cashbacks, they will hold your money for ages.

  • This reminded me of inkjet printers.

Just a warning for anyone with diabeetus and this brand. The strips expire after a month or two, each pack comes with a separate chip that makes sure that the test strips aren't too old, so when you buy a new pack, you get a new chip. Do your research before hand, because while the testing unit may be a bargain, getting strips, can quite easily not be. It's like a lot of subsidised hardware, they make their money and more on the consumables.

    • The newer Accuchek Performa strips come with a black chip that doesn't have to be replaced again, even if you buy a new box of strips with another new chip.

    • As darkscorpio said, Roche has released a new chip which no longer requires you to keep changing that white chip in order to use a set of strips. You may have received an old batch but normally the strips last a bit over a year from manufacture.

Going to neg these. You can get these for free from many GPs if you're diagnosed. The strips are expensive and basically subsedise the cost of the machine.

  • It's also worth phoning Accu-Chek directly. I phoned up for some information about the Accu-Chek Mobile meter and they sent me one for free(RRP $60).

My wife got hers for free when she went along to a Diabetes Nursing service. The strips are where the companies hope to make their money.

If you register for the National Diabetes Services Scheme the strips are subsidized. This is the link.

I don't understand why everyone is not informed of this. It is a government initiative. The cost of strips is less than half the price but you can only get them from selected chemists. My understanding is that instead of $40 they are about $15. Perhaps I should list this as a bargain.

  • I belong to NDSS and have a pension, I get 100 strips for my meter (now using Abbott Labs Freestyle Lite) for $1.20. Its $5.80 (or so) without a pension if you have NDSS membership (which is free, and worthwhile). I retired my Performa when I got the Freestyle to go with the Glooko app I have on the iPhone.

  • Not reall a deal, as these are usually $39 with $40 cash-back, and have been for a long time.
