it supports ai mesh so yes

so what do people use these portable routers for? really curious the use case for this is.

Probably as vpn router when travelling. Also pretty useless when i use gl.inet router in china. Connect to hotel wifi but the vpn was hit and miss.

I have no idea what you just wrote but it sounds like I need this on my holidays

Connect your devices to this then connect this to a public/hotel wifi and this will secure anything going through it and onto the internet.
Like https://one.one.one.one/ but at the router instead of the device before it goes into the public network which can be easily compromised if you're not careful or its not setup well

Same experience here, tried piavpn and purevpn but none really worked with the hotels'wifi.

likewise with Nord

Security, convenience and odd tasks.
If you are travelling as a family with lots of devices, you just connect the 1 router to the network then everything else is already configured to auto connect to the router.
If you are worried about security at free wifi locations or your hotel you can use a VPN to hide your data or change the DNS server to your preferred ones etc.
I also use one to connect to my home network to back up photos on the road and to get access to media servers or even just australian media like iview etc or stores that can be restricted from overseas.
The also allow you to work around network restrictions like one device per room etc or access to sites that are blocked. A per device VPN can do most of these things, but not all, so its the convenience also.

It's a good deal but I can't find a good use case. Sharing the wifi out somewhere with no public wifi?

Any ideas if this compared to GL.iNet travel routers? Does this handle captive wifi networks?

I spent hours trying to get the Asus to work. I end up returning it. The GL worked within minutes.

Thanks. Looks like a good thing it sold out. What GL.iNet did you go with?

I have the beryl AX been solid. Usually around 110 when on sale

Im pretty sure any of them will be good. There's a reason why Ozbargainers love them. I think I have the AX.

I just wish Glinet would release another compact router - I've still got a Creta that I use as its so small and light but all the newer ones are considerably larger and heavier

Creta accompanied me on my 3 week one bag SE Asian holiday just because of these reasons and a original Slate is my normal go to even though I have multiple newer models (e.g. Slate 7) 😊

OOS

Its gone so quick! This look like it has no internal battery or sim tray (or esim) support though

That's correct, no cellular modem built-in

So….can i put this in my house as a mesh with my other asus router AX86U or whatevr it is…you know….the popular one.
Im a dumb idiot and dont know things.
