EV Charging Adapter from Type 1 to Type 2

Hi, we own a Mini 2025 EV with a Type 2 connector.

I am looking for an EV charging adapter from Type 1 to Type 2. I found this one at x-car:

Is there anything I should watch out for? Any recommendations in general? I am not necessarily looking for the cheapest deal, but for something reliable.

Any help is appreciated :)

  • RCM may apply to charging adapters too - best to check

  • Is it worth buying a cheap electrical adaptor from a company that appears to mainly offer floor mays and stuff? While they may be expanding their product range, did they source this from a reputable factory? Or is it the cheapest thing they could find?

Yeah… you wont need it. There are almost ZERO type 1 chargers in Australia. I have had my Type 1 to Type 2 adaptor and it is still minty fresh in the box it arrived in.

Save your money and dont bother with it. If your car is Type 2, as it should be, you wont need an adaptor… 5 years ago, maybe, but now, not really.

Here is an example why you DONT need the adaptor… I did a quick search for Type 1 vs Type 2 chargers and you can see the coverage difference here.

Note also, that some of these chargers are incorrectly labelled at "Type 1", but on further digging, some of them are actually "Type 2" or have been updated since the orginal location was sent to Plugshare

      Thanks @pegaxs

The only reason to get the adapter is for the chargers that are available at my workplace. Very convenient place to charge and it's free. There are Type 1 and some Type 2 at work and and it's always easier to find an unoccupied Type 1.

Not quite sure where you are located, but feel free to PM me if you want to sell your adapter :)

I would, but I keep it in the car, because I just know, the moment I get rid of it, BOOM! I'm gonna need it.

And in your case, if the Type 1 chargers are readily available, then it's worth the investment.

Just also be reminded that your car will only charge at the single phase rate on Type 1 sockets. So, if you have an 11kW onboard charger, you are possibly only going to get about 5~ish kW out of a Type 1 cable. Type 2 is capable of 3 phase charging and will get you the full wack.
