  • I'm tossing between this and Flint 2 - I don't need wi-fi 7 today, but maybe in the future. I heard that this particular model really suffers on non-wifi 7 bands and the CPU is slower than Flint 2.

    What would people suggest?

Flint 2 its almost perfect and has a lot more community development if you want to tinker.
It is also regularly down to $180.

Got the Flint 2 delivered on Sat from Amazon for $211.65 (with Prime).

Although I know it has been cheaper, including direct from US, needed it in a hurry and peace of mind for return if any problem (like the basic Asus router bought week before that didn't have enought static DHCP slots for my needs, so returned after satisfied Flint 2 all good).

Relatively easy to be up and running straight away. Just has some individual implementation differences for more advanced config, but easy once familiar with it. Looking forward to seeing what the VPN with dynamic DNS is like for acessing my home network remotely.

Small place, so don't need mesh, with Flint 2 giving great speeds and coverage throughout house.

Has all the configurability I need, with Allowlist (whitelist), parental time controls, as many fixed DHCP addresses as I want.

Haven't tinkered too much with security options yet, but maybe next weekend :-).

Hey I went with Flint 2 too with similar plans as you.
Played around and got it all working with both Wireguard and OpenVPN server options, eventually I found that Tailscale worked best for me to access my home network (jellyfin server and NAS) remotely and also setting the router as an exit node.

Everything has been quite good to use and learn. Only drama I had was a non-issue to optimise the angle positions for the antennas.
When I gain more confidence maybe I'll flash it with vanilla openwrt firmware.

No regrets not getting the Flint 3, not craving wifi7.

  • I was thinking the same , i don't have a single device with Wi-Fi 7 and by the time I upgrade the flint 4 will be out and 3 would be discounted. 2.5 nic could be worth it. Wish they would have m.2 slots to turn them into cheap network storage.

    • They have USB ports for storage, a small enclosure plugged in with a SSD would do.

  • Hi, Anyone know a good device as an AP? I've got Flint 2 as the main router, which is great.

Had EAP-245 as AP, but this gives sub par speeds in comparison to Flint 2. And maybe signals from both Flint and TP Link are not working together very well (busy/congested??). Looking for something that can handle VLANs as well, as the Flint 2 setup with vlans via Luci. Any help/suggestions? Thanks in advance!

The Flint 2 is one of the best all round access points.

  • The Flint 2 is 4x4, has OpenWrt vanilla support and is excellent.

The Flint 3 is only 2x2, and no OG OpenWrt support, and for many people Wi-Fi 7 is take it or leave it.

  • discount finished

  • Shame these are unsupported by my isp and likely many others.

    • Which ISP? I used Flint 3 with Tangerine and More tel.

  • In my experience, it's too hot as a router. It's temperature was higher than T-nas F4 424 pro.
