I've got an expired 4 Kg Bbqs galore bottle that I use for my Weber baby Q. What's the cheapest way to replace with a full bottle, preferably one that's not expired so I can get into the refill game once it runs out.

I did this just last month at a coles reddy express swap n go.
Just said I wanted to swap my gas bottle paid for it and swapped and then left, easy.Done the same and then taken them to a refill petrol station and no problems.
Thanks everyone, just picked one up from Bunnings for 22.45, date stamped on the bottle is 06/23. Should be good for refills for quite a while.
That's pretty good … I found the majority of places that don't care are also giving out expired bottles that haven't been "renewed" with a new stamp.
The first bottle they pulled out of the cage had a faded date that I couldn't read. Requested for a different bottle and got lucky with this one.
I always do swaps because the industry is no longer setup to service refilling. Are you still able to get refills done for cheap? Barbecues Galore still does refills but I gather the lead & wait time varies.

No. Too cynical. If you think about it, there are good reasons for them to accept expired bottles.
All their bottles will expire one day, and they don't want people afraid and checking the dates like you do for milk bottles at the servo. It is a profitable model, and cylinders are a small part of their costs. (Mostly gas and labour.)
Ignoring the date, main thing would be to ensure LCC27 connectivity (with external & internal thread) rather than the old POL (internal thread only).
Most swap out places don’t care. I’ve swapped expired bottles at Coles and Woolies petrol stations.
