[Perks] Philips Reverse Osmosis Water Station $959 + Delivery ($0 C&C) + Bonus $65 Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi

100

I have been eyeing this unit for a while now and was waiting for Black Friday but the trusty kettle died.

Mr Norman has this for $1,199 with extra 20% off and a $65 gift card but I refuse to support him. https://www.harveynorman.com.au/philips-reverse-osmosis-puri…

Went into JB, got a price beat of Mr Norman’s $1,199 to $1,150 + 20% off (perks) + $65 gift card.

Final total is $920 for the unit and $65 gift card.

Used discounted gift cards to bring the $920 down further :)

OW has this online only but their office hours to price beat is Mon-Fri. This deal ends Sunday night.

Should you be drinking RO water?

    • Why not?

      • +1

true RO water is not isotonic. however if minerals are put back in, it might be ok.

        • Been drinking it daily for at least 5 years now. Those who does know how good it is.

A lot of fear mongering out there.

The toxin and metals taken out is far more beneficial than any loss of minerals. Unless you don't eat nutritious food and supplement as required

    • +2

it has a remineraliser so its safe to drink

      • -1

Sweet, so we take safe tap water, remove the minerals via RO, then add them back in and you can drink.
I think I’ll just cut out the Philips middle man and drink from the tap

        • -1

There's a lot more toxin and heavy metals in tap water. Run water tester and see the difference between RO water and tap water.

Fluoride for example is toxin, in parts of Australia water have high iron contents.

    Is this a niche product?

I have seen these overseas where tap water isn't safe but in Australia unless you live in a region where water gets contaminated sure otherwise ei personally don't see the need.

A lot of my Asian friend still struggle to drink tap water here and always drink cooled boiled water maybe helps them

      • +1

This. Just paranoid and hysteria for our needs here in Australia.

        • +4

Australia’s permissible levels of PFAS in drinking water are much higher than the U.S. 140 times more.

        • More or less correct.

In many cases, when filters aren't changed on a regular basis it can actually become a bacterial dispersal system, as the activated charcoal can become a breeding ground for bacteria.

This one has a UV light, so that's not much of a worry, but other systems are vulnerable.

      • +1

Well, it is contaminated with fluoride, so people prone to dental florurosis would ideally want to remove it, so there's that.

South Australia has notoriously hard water which isn't overly palatable to a lot of folks either, this unit would fix this issue too.

Anyone on bore/well water would also use this as would folks on tank water to clean it up a bit for anyone sensitive to it.

Quite a few people would benefit from a R/O filter like this.

        • SA water much better than it used to be, plus portion of it coming from desalination plant as well.

        • Regular filters don't remove fluoride. You need to use activated bonechar

  • I purchased this two years ago, very good product.

  • RO is effective at removing microplastics if you're concerned with it. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-11/reduce-consumption-of…

  • There is potential contamination of PFAS so it's not like there's completely no risk - https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08-12/21-new-pfas-chemicals…

For those who thought filtering water is meaningless, I would tell you all my story - I have been living in Australia for almost 25 years and always drink tap water (no filtering nor boiling) but I also found that I have bloating and IBS as well as different unexplained chronic digestive issues more than 10 years ago. I never thought drinking tap water was an issue because our government told us it is safe to do so. Earlier this year (yes after I have been struggling for more than 10 years), I finally realised that the root cause is those bloody water straight from tap. Now I drink filtered + boiled water and my IBS and digestive issues are almost gone. I said "almost" because I believe my digestive system has been ruined or damaged too long by tap water. It takes time to recover the internal lining. FYI, I am NOT using RO system because it is tooooooo expensive. I use Zerowater 5-stage filtering (from US) and it is good enough for me to feel difference. I also boil the filtered water just in case if there is any virus / bacteria. If any of you has similar digestive issues (or IBS), you should drink filtered and boiled water. Another option would be getting distilled bottle water from supermarket, there is only one brand available, it is "Pureau". Again this option is way more expensive than Zerowater in the long run but it is convenient.

You hit the nail on the head there. No one thinks to look at tap water being source because the government says its safe.

What else out there said to be safe?

      • +1

The government also said that asbestos was safe once upon a time, same with bpa plastics (bps is no better btw) and same with pfas lined non-stick pans. There's probably hundreds of other things too, like the food colourings banned in many countries that Australia hasn't banned, vaccines, especially the mrna covid ones. The list is huge and the corrupt capitalist government cannot be trusted. We can only trust ourselves and our own research.
