      This!

It's not the camera that makes a masterpiece. 100 years ago this would have been amazing!

      • +2

        what about 1000 years ago

        • +1

what if it filmed the big bang?

          • +1

            @QuickToThePointless: what about before that?

            • +6

@qnbm: Before that, only the Kids Camcorder existed, floating in the void…and it could not film itself.

          • +5

@QuickToThePointless: It does! We are in the big bang!

Look again at that deal with the $17 camcorder. That’s here. That’s home. That’s OzBargain.
On it, everyone you’ve ever price-matched, every code you’ve ever stacked,
every cashback you’ve chased, every JV comment you’ve downvoted,
every argument about whether Eneloops are still the best ,all of it happened here,
on a tiny orange pixel glowing faintly against the void of the internet.

The sum of our joys and regrets, our price errors and missed coupons,
our rushes to “click before OOS,” our triumph when the refund still comes through
it all lives in the flicker of this one deal thread,
briefly front-paged before it’s lost to the archives.

Our self-importance, our certainty that our bargain is the greatest,
is challenged by this faint orange dot
a reminder that, in the vast marketplace of the web,
there is perhaps no more humbling perspective than that of a dealhunter
seeing his post reposted with “Repost (10 min earlier)” in the comments.

OzBargain is a stage of endless refreshes,
where tightwads, tinkerers, and true believers
argue about whether free shipping counts as a bargain at all.
Think of the endless price errors quietly fixed,
the unclaimed cashback, the boxes of Eneloops still unopened in drawers
the folly of man, captured in markdown form.

To me, it underscores our responsibility
to deal kindly with one another,
and to cherish this pale orange pixel
the only home of real bargains we’ve ever known.

@kaybrr: This needs to be pinned or archived or framed or something… gold.

              • @timjohns: Thankyou to Carl Sagan, the original writer

            • +1

@kaybrr: Brilliant.. I suspect the camcorder may be trash but liked this deal to boost this monologue.

    • not good enough most kids wann 4k :D

    looks like complete e-waste.

righto mate sounds like you never wanted to be a film maker as a child

        VHS tape cam recorder here

cool man you're a real 'drank from a garden hose and turned out okay' kinda guy aren't ya

          • -8

            @Raynes: Ugly personal attack

          • -5

@Raynes: Are you ok? You sound angry at life because you view ot through a lens or a screen instead of living the moment?
Do you go to a concert and watch it through your phone screen recording it instead of living the moment?

            • +1

@teddiebear: I filmed the Wiggles concert on my Kids Camcorder, yes

I also filmed myself getting air on my trike and eating/reviewing various dirts for my kids youtube channel…IIFRC coastal plains sand was my favourite, with a rating of 4.5 earthworms!

            • +1

@teddiebear: Bro is really living in the moment arguing with some stranger online. Grass might be green in that OLED screen bud, still doesn't mean you are really touching it.

              • @Dan24: Don't have anything OLED. Arguing? Nah. Just because someone doesn't agree with me, doesn't mean i'm arguing. I'm not on a childish attack-kinda thing because i "drank from a hose" lol
People film so much crap so they can post it to their social media for a handfull of thumbs up likes. Because it means so much to have that thumbs up. Instead they're missing out on living the moment and life goes by.
Filming a childs 'first', sure thing. They're for the memory of the child.
How many people take thousands of pics with their phones, yet NEVER get any of them printed???

                • @teddiebear:

Instead they're missing out on living the moment and life goes by.

Thanks for popping on to this Internet forum to let us know the right way to live life's moments, I guess?

How are you responding so fast to all these comments anyway, wouldn't each handwritten response letter you are using take several days to arrive in the mail at OzBargain head office and be opened by their staff and typed up here?

                  • -3

@Crow K: How about posting a deal instead of trolling? Or did your smoke signals get blown away too fast…
5years, zero posted deals, kinda shows what you're here for

                    • @teddiebear: I suppose it's a given you'd move on from telling us all the right way to live life's moments to the right way to use the website

Your "smoke signals" joke would work if I was the one hung up on the golden days of yesteryear, but maybe we had a bit of a moment and forgot who was who in the convo :/

Might be a good sign it's time to sign off the Internet for the day and have a rest. It's almost 4pm, practically time for dinner.

                      • @Crow K: If you say so. Mmmmm pot roast and beans and then bed by 20:30.
And you're 'not' telling me how to live? kinda hypocritical lmao
I'll sign off now because you said so

In the 90s I had a Tyco Videocam.

I would use it with my Jurassic Park toys to recreate scenes from the movie.

It needed to be plugged into a VCR to record. So I had a massive cable so I could use it outside to film the dinosaurs in the garden.

Is this acceptable to you? 🙄

We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville? I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh, yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones…

when I was a kid all the other kids played on bikes and ate dirt, we didn't have electronic devices. I played on my bike like a normal kid.

These days all the kids play on electronic devices and tablets. When I see a kid playing on a tablet I think to myself "that kid should be playing with a bike, because that's the normal way for kids to play"

Now just put a black and white picture of some kids playing in a mud pool and share it on Facebook

I'm more worried if this crap is being left in the 'wrong' room and recording

    • +2

      Care to elaborate?

      • I was thinking toilet. Not sure what you were thinking.

        • +2

Nah I’ve tried that. Too obvious to guests.

It's not a live webcam mate

      • +1

Live or not I still don't want to get recorded when taking a dump.

    • +1

Hope it has a red light to recognise it's recording

    • Can it be used as kiss-cam?

    • It's okay, these cameras are so bad that you need a lot of light to see anything at all in videos shot indoors. You'll possibly end up like Georges Melies and burn everything down

Kids are better off just using their iPhones.

    • +1

      It's easier to hold a potato 🍠

    • spoken like a true Not A Parent!

      • both my kids have iPhones.

        • I stand corrected. Spoken like a True Tech Dependent Parent with a digital babysitter!

          • @halo999: They don’t need babysitting.

            • @jv: What could possibly go wrong with giving kids iphones and access to the internet & social media, instead of a simple camcorder?!

  • +2

The unhinged videos this would make would probably be delightful

Who remembers Philip Bloom doing DigitalRev's cheap camera challenge?

    • Never seen that before lol. Hillarious

      • It shows a story can be told with the shittiest of cameras. :)

    • I haven't seen that one but there's another one where he uses some horrible kids camera. When he uses good cameras I don't find his photography to be very good though.

  • kids are interested in mobiles now a days, they won't play with this plasticky cam corders :)

  • +1

    Usual price 35

  • Do you think it is actually 1080 or just 640 up scaled?

    • a 1080 sensor would probably be cheaper than a chip capable of upscaling.

      • Not sure about that. I assume this is old stock model, so is more likely to have older technology in it.

    • +2

Pretty painful vid, but looks the same cam - see ~2:36 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFQmu9EEvxE&t=156

      • +1

That is a nasty lens and there is heaps of tearing when panning. Even at the full price, this is about what I would expect.

  • +1

    Could use as a dashcam?

    • +3

      on your trike, yes!

    • The quality with moving subjects is very poor and that is in reasonable lighting, so yes, but you wouldn't want to.
