Once these are sold I don’t think they will import the brand anymore.

It’s just another generic looking EV.

    • LSH are going to bring in 2026 model year from what i was told.

    Daheck is a "smart"

The name Smart derives from the cooperation of the Swiss company Swatch with Mercedes-Benz: "Swatch Mercedes ART". The marque started in the late 90s with the goal of creating city cars (ForTwo, ForFour & Roadster).

Looks like it's now a 50/50 joint partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, and relaunched a couple years ago as an all-EV brand. So less of a fly-by-night operation than you might otherwise think.

They've definitely sucked at marketing IMO, as I only incidentally became aware of the relaunch earlier this year.

i saw one driving around earlier in the year and was surprised that smart as a brand was brought back.

    • It's a German brand originally started by Mercedes to make ultra small cars in the 1990s.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_(marque)

      • It is now basically a mechanically Chinese and Geely made car with Mercedes handling the design. At this price, it is still expensive and niche. The same price can get you a medium SUV (though not electric) from Korean or Japanese brands. Alternatively, consider a BYD if you are not opposed to Chinese vehicles. The Brabus Smart is sold for around 50k in China, so we pay a lot even at a discounted price.

  • How interesting. Didn't think SMART cars were still in Australia, let alone these electrified cars.

They had a BEV version of their previous generations of cars, the ED and EQ, which were a hoot if you could get a hold of one - granted they were expensive for their size and range making them unappealing.

  • Rented a petrole smart during my Hawaii trip. Was fun to drive, 3cyl engine had a nice ring to it.

Considering its partly Mercedes, I'd be worried about cost of spare parts on these.

  • They really need some work on their website…some premium brand for some strange reason dont give enough photos ( interior and exterior) on their website…

So many things obstructing the webpage with floating stuff, not enough photos of the vehicles, cookies button doesn't load correctly. I find a lot of these car websites are just awful.

Asthetically otherwise nice looking car. Can't comment on performance.

My millennial brain got confused. I thought the title was code for a Nokia ringtone

  • They have come a long way from when they were quirky and fun. it's like someone just asked ChatGPT to make a photo of a amorphoros blob that vaguely looks like an SUV, cause that's what the kids want these days!

    "Accept ALL cookies"…

    Yeah, nah, (fropanity) that.

  • Does anyone know how the BYD Atto 1 will be priced? I suspect it will cost less than this but have more technology.

Talk was around mid-20s, which is pretty sharp

      Base model 25k, premium 30k.
Premium is the pick, larger battery(more range), more power, faster charging speed. (ignoring other additional equipment).

The smart 3 looks like a solid vehicle.

    • 2 different leagues of cars mate.
Atto 1 will be about 25k, it’s a cheap car, it will feel that way - rattle/shaking at 100kmph+ etc.
it’s a great car with probably the safest battery - just not comparable to this.
This is a small car with premium feel aim.

I think the only way the byd atto 1 or 3 beats this one will be battery tech.
The seal maybe a better comparison.

      • Nah, the Seal is not a small car. Maybe the Dolphin would be a better comparison but I don't expect the Atto 1 to feel cheap. All the BYD cars that I've been in have felt like quality cars.

        • Check out a few reviews. I seen 3 reporting the same thing.

          • @Bargainboss99: All the reviews that I've seen have been very positive. Apparently for the size of the car, the rattling/shaking is extremely good. There is mention of high noise when traveling over 100km/h. It's a small con for me on a car with lots of pros.

            • @RickyJ: Ah yes noise not rattling. Anyways, I still would say it’s an unfair comparison between these 2 cars. No dig at byd,
Byd is an awesome brand with great cars.

  • Colour scheme reminds me of the Mini Cooper

  • With a plethora of manufacturers in or entering the market. I can’t see Smart making the cut and goi going the distance.

  • Have they even sold more than 5 of these? Don't think I've ever seen a single one on the road.
