Question about Amazon Game Pre-Order That Is Showing As No Longer Available?

Just wondering if this has come up before or if anyone knows what happens when you have a standing pre-order on a game that is no longer available for purchase?
I ordered Dragon Quest 1+2 Switch 2 version a few months ago, but for quite a while now it's been showing unavailable:

Am I still good to go, is this going to be cancelled, or am I going to get the runaround for a few weeks? 🤔
Wondering if I should start to make plans to pick it up at EB or something.

Could just contact their customer service and ask them what's going on with them situation.

They could just have information of the reason, stock levels, options available to you, etc.

Their customer service is quite good

    • Well it doesn't come out until the 30th, so its not delayed or anything just yet. I guess I was just curious leading up to its release if this was going to be a problem.

Possibly sold out of their pre-order stock

Literally all three are potential scenarios that have happened before. Either they get more stock allocation and it gets delivered on or near launch, they take several weeks of delays to get stock and update shipping and deliver, or it gets cancelled with a sorry note.

There’s no way of knowing at this point and customer service won’t know either. It’s a waiting game.

    • Haha, damn. Guess I'll see then :P

I don't think you should worry too much since you pre-ordered while it was in stock. This is like when there's a lightning deal and you place an order, and half an hour later the item is out of stock. Of course there is a chance something will go wrong with your order and it gets delayed, etc, but there's no way to know unless they notify you.

        • Welp, they just emailed me my Pre-order DLC code so I guess it's all good :D
(Which suspiciously enough seemed to have downloaded the entirety of the 16gb game? Can't play without the cart though..)

Likely just sold out of their preorder stock. I've had this before for a number of orders of limited edition items (controllers etc).

They tend to go ahead and cancel it if they aren't planning on fulfilling it. Most likely scenario is pre-order allocation has been exhausted.

I ordered a inflatable boat that was showing out of stock at the time, still allowed me to order, didn't dock any money off me as it didn't ship (price locked in). Sat there for 1 year. i Cancelled.

I've had Amazon cancel an order that had a long delivery time (like 3 or 4 months out) and then the time came and went and about a month after the expected ship date they just cancelled the order. I complained and about a month after that I got a $25 credit which was absolutely not enough to cover the price difference to reorder somewhere else. I don't think Amazon cares at all about following through with their promises.

    • They never give me credit when I complain, I must be doing something wrong.

Was there a preorder bonus? The release date is today so maybe it was set to expire. Sure it'll be fixed soon.

EBGames and JB HiFi have lots of copies so you're good.
