King Mattress Purchase South Australia

I'm a bit lost with buying a king mattress in South Australia.
We have a Sleepmaker Miracoil Classic 5 Queen that's served us well for 15 years plus.
Thought we'd head down to wherever stocked a replacement and buy that in king size.
Went to Harvey Norman to be told they don't make it any more.
Tried some AH Beards, gravitated towards Sleepmaker and selected an Advance Elite for $2500 (bartered from $3000, RRP $6000)+$199 delivery.
Went to another store called Sleepy's for a second opinion. Found they were more upmarket for Sleepmaker and were pushing packages including moving frame, sheets, protector, pillows; $6000- no thanks.
Alright, so just buy from Harvey's? Leaning that way, but I also found the M302 on Beds Australia which looks pretty equivalent for $1840 delivered.
It's so hard to compare mattresses when Harvey's online doesn't match models in-store, then each store has exclusive brands.
The SleepMaker Raphael Medium Mattress - King is the closest I could find on Harvey Norman online to compare to the M302.

We have a Sleep Republic mattress and recommend it over the other box brands. They just started their Black Friday 25% sale.

Note that you can trial for 150 nights.

Real answer - get whichever one the wife/spouse likes the most, let them convince you. No material can ever match the plush comfort of peace and quiet for over a decade.

You'll be sleeping on it for at least 10-20 years, amortise it over your expected timeframe and you'll get a better idea of the real cost.

Imagine hearing complaints that the mattress is too firm/soft/hurts back/whatever because you got the cheaper one, it becomes your problem. Probably exactly the same mattress for half the money, but this is rarely a value buy and the mattress salespeople know it.

  • Bought a King Size mattress from Koala a few years ago on Black Friday with a big cash back discount.

It was a bit of a gamble buying online, but we had heard other great reports, watched a couple of You Tube video reports plus the option of a 120 night money back trial.

Worked out to be one of the best mattresses we have ever had at a great price.

  • Get some pricing from Nick Scali.
Their numbers look somewhere between Turkish Liras towards Greek Roman infinity.
Or ze Germans up the valley have a Bett im Kornfeld?

  • I highly recommend checking out Galligan's mattress factory in Magill.

I believe there are only a few places in SA that manufacture locally, and this is one of them.

We got a king with a wonky zip for a great price, and we've been really happy with it. So far it's been great construction, and I like that we can swap the foam out in the future if the tops ever get worn.

You might also want to check out Whirlpool, there were a few good suggestions on a long running mattress purchase thread which is where I found Galligans.

  • A lot of the old school retail mattress shops sell the same products from the same factory, but with different fabric and badges to make it impossible to price match and haggle. Their markups have been dented by online “bed in a box” sales the last 15 years, which can offer a similar product for a third of the price.

  • Thank you all for your advice and suggestions!!!

I love my AH Beard King Koil mattress… they are also Australian Manufactured and extremely comfortable. That would be my top pick as they have been in business for over 100 years and really understand how to make quality products.
