Reddit Premium Ads-Free

Other than OzB, Reddit is my favourite website.
Quite annoyed with the Ads and the layout.
Wonder whether anyone has gone Premium?

Also, current fee is $5.99/month, or $49.99/year.
Has anyone got a better deal?

Thanks for reading o(︶︿︶)o

Revanced Manager has a custom Reddit app that doesn't have ads. Android only.

    • Thanks…
Silly question: have you used it, is it safe to download?

You'd want to get their website url from their github page or their subreddit revancedapp.

Loads of dodgy links going around pretending to be them.

I haven't tried their reddit patched app, but am dropping a comment to point you to an official link

      • ive been using it for a year, its great. its safe because you sourced the apk yourself and then get it patched with the revanced manager.

      They're ads masquerading as posts.

Use old.reddit.com with an ad blocker.

    • I made a plugin for Safari that automatically redirects to old.reddit.com.

Apollo developer took millions and ran. Smaller apps continued to operate with small subscription to cover API costs.

I think you may be quite misinformed on that. The scale of Apollo's use made it unsustainable to pay for API costs.

Apollo app, though defunct, still works and used daily by the way.

      • The scale of Apollo's use made it unsustainable to pay for API costs.

Unsustainable? He could have priced it at whatever reddit is charging it for and let users decide.

        still works

        Apollo? Link to more details?

        • Unsustainable? He could have priced it at whatever reddit is charging it for and let users decide.

According to the dev, he would be exposed for $20m USD per year at the rate Apollo was going in 2023. 50 million requests costs $12,000 that he would have to pay in advance. A pay-per-use model is never going to work to cover costs if that continues to rise, regardless if it's subscription-only. Other apps were allegedly not charged the same amount by Reddit either. And the dev offered full refunds to anyone that requested it regardless how long they used the app.

Beyond money, it was clear at the time that Reddit admins made things quite difficult in negotiations and it appears that was intentional to kill off Apollo due to it's popularity. They wanted people using the official app instead to serve ads etc. I'm not trying to defend or speak for the guy, I don't know anything about him, but your initial comment was quite misguided.

          Apollo? Link to more details?

Yep, we've been using it since the day it was removed. There's various routes to doing so with Sideloadly being the most straight forward for me, while others prefer Altstore. https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/16naxdo/how_to_i…

Eh Reddit ads aren't that disruptive. You can ignore them like any other thread that doesn't interest you

  • I use Infinity patched with recanced. Works perfectly.

Get the infinity APK through GitHub

  • it used to be good using 3rd party apps with no ads and great layout/navigation until they killed it for profit

Depending on your interest, some have moved to Lemmy. Each server (instance) is like another reddit, but they are all connected and you can subscribe/post/comment to other servers.

    https://lemmy.world/ is the most popular
    https://aussie.zone/ is our local communities

plenty of apps to browser the content with: https://join-lemmy.org/apps

I browse Reddit on chrome and have adguard…never seen ads

Quite annoyed with the Ads and the layout.

they are terrible. they don't appear as ads. they use some kind of ai to choose ads specifically with titles/images that look like they are posts in the subreddit you are in.

I have learned to recognize and not tap on them, but if I'm in a new sub for the first time it sometimes still fools me.

    • also fyi I think because of this, they get through my lifetime free vpn app.

tbf I claimed it years ago, and I'm surprised they still provide app updates. but I shouldn't be seeing the reddit ads which also has me off guard and tapping on them I guess.

  • If you use an iPhone, Sink it is quite good.
