LG Replacing My G1 Oled - Which TV Is Comparable Currently?

EDIT: Swapped the G1 for a G5 for $80 total with free delivery and installation. LG and JB were very helpful. No complaints here!

My 65" LG G1 from 2021 has a screen issue that LG can't fix, so they've authorised a free (?) replacement from JB where I originally got it.

Is the LG G5 the easiest way to go for a replacement, or is there a better model these days? Doesn't need to be LG brand I don't think.

I use the TV mainly for films and gaming which is why I went with the top model of the time.

Thanks!

Depending on the panel size, it would be a toss up between S95F and the G5. Samsung does some funky business with which size gets the better QD-Oled panel vs the WOled panel, so be careful about that. Always good to refer to rtings to check out the reviews. They recently came out with their best tvs for 2025 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMsgD1XCEFY

    • Good point, my TV is 65". Will update the post with that info. Thanks for the info and link!

Go LG again - it’s the best choice if you want a comparable screen and with a comparable screen problem.

    • Haha yeah fair enough I guess.

Wouldn't have upgraded the screens in the last 4 years?

      • I wouldn't count on it, they've always been problematic. They're like the Mercedes of the TV world. A premium product that often falls short.

        • LG or oled in general?

        • Have they been problematic?

I would personally just go with another LG OLED again. I currently have a 65" GX/G10 model and have had the panel replaced by LG under warranty but if I need to get a replacement TV at any point, I will 100% go with an LG OLED. Great TV's, just need to make some adjustments to them to get them right and don't hook them to the internet to avoid any enshittification updates.

LG oled is still the best for gaming and one of the top for movies. G series of C is based on your like of wanting to wall mount vs table top etc.

What kind of problem did you have with the C1, OP? My CX sometimes loses signal at 4K 120Hz HDR which is a known problem with their HDMI 2.1 ports. No solution to the best of my knowledg,e but I'd love a free replacement if they are offering it XD

    • I have the G1 and a green vertical line just appeared down the centre of the screen a couple of months ago. Hasn't been knocked around, removed everything plugged in, tried pixel cleaning as advised by LG, nothing has worked. Seems to be a common occurrence because they admitted the fault is on their side and were originally going to replace the screen, but then they said they can't get the screen anymore so I can get a replacement TV for it.

      • Did you have extended warranty for it? If not, did you have to push them hard to get a replacement?

        • Not extended, there was a 1 year warranty PLUS 4 years for a fault from their end. Because it's something that must happen a lot, there were no arguments from their end. Edited my post above, but ended up swapping for a G5 for $80 total. Even the JB staff said LG are generally awesome.

G5 is the direct replacement of the G1 I would say, Bravia 8 II is also great option and if you want to upgrade size without paying more for comparable picture quality go for the C8K 85inch, I know a lot of people coming from OLED are sceptical of mini LED but it really offers a comparable picture quality.

    • Thanks!

  • What did you pay? Might be better to push for refund and get another tv / profit

    • Paid way less than what the same model costs right now (G1 vs G5). So a direct swap will benefit me the most I think.
