  • The real question is what uses 40Gbps over RJ45? The 40Gbps gear I use is all QSFP+.

    • Using fibre is the sensible path. Yes, you can push ridiculous data speeds through copper, but the power consumed by the line drivers also becomes ridiculous.

    I can't see why you'd want/need cat 8 over cat 6/6a.

Because it's $0.97 for 2 metres which is even cheaper than a cat 6. Ergo, BECAUSE CHEAP WOOOOOOOO

What? You don't have a data center in your home?

      • Every Nigerian prince does

As others have said, its very cheap for a quality SFTP cable.

I would question it's 'Cat8' labeling, but its likely to be a very good quality shielded cable that should work well in a network that has moved to Cat6A 10gbps.

That being said, its listed as 26AWG, which is pretty thin. Really good quality cables are all in the 23AWG range for lower resistance and better signal quality over longer distances. Very much needed if you want to push 40gbps through this cable.

I still find it amazing that you can push 2GHz signals over twisted pair and keep the signal in the cable for up to 30m.

Agreed, it is wild that this is possible just using copper. Honestly… not sure if there is much demand for this yet.

This has little to no use in SOHO environments which are commonly copper ethernet based, meanwhile enterprise environments would be using fibre for anything above 10gbps given its high reliability regardless of distance. Most importantly, not sure a 40gbps ethernet switch is going to be any cheaper than an equivalent fibre one, even after you factor in the cost of SFPs etc.

  • Can’t checkout yo. Qty you requested is no longer available.

We’re so very close to having Cat 9 tails again!

  • Now but a 40gb router/switch…
