Watching the comments with interest as I looked at this only last week.

Here is the Costco online link, which doesn’t show the discounted price:

  • Wonder how this price compares to other systems?

We have a full Reolink set up, but not a kit like this. We got everything individually based on what cameras we needed in each location.

You will most definitely need more than 2tb as the storage if you want to record for more than a few days and do not cheap out on the HDD either, we got an 8TB WD Red Pro for internal and another 8TB WD Red Pro via eSATA, which gives about 2-3 weeks or recording I believe. Them alone was almost the same cost as the entire set up.

The latest hardware revision of the NVR (N7MB01, but there could be a newer one I am unaware of) has a documented capacity of 8tb internal and 8tb external (hence our storage), but people have reported it will work with more than 8tb in each slot, but this is at your own risk.

The app is good, lots of customisation and the quality of reolink cameras in general are very good in well-lit areas. Night is where they struggle compared to Hikvision, Dahua etc, but they obviously come at a price point a little higher than these.

Plus, if you need them professionally installed, that's going to cost you about the cost of this kit too. So if you weigh up the cost of this, the extra storage and the installation, you could well be over 2k.

    • change encoding to h265, in area where you don’t need 24/7 recording change it to record on motion. willl easily stretch your recoding 2-5x

    • I have an RLN8-410 N7MB01 successfully running a 16tb x16 Seagate EXOS drive.

Have seen others running the same or WD Purples up to 16tb, but others who have failed to successfully use larger drives or EXOS drives from the X18 or X20 variants.

Note that the NVR in these combo packs is slightly different to the RLN8-410, so hardware, firmware and resulting mileage may vary.

    • Where u finding 8 cameras installed for $800?
I'd be charging about $1500 to install in single storey, tiled roof and I'm cheap lol
Also note, since the license changes some states a lot of companies have ceased operations cause fingerprints lmao
2TB at my house for 8 cameras takes approx 2 months to fill as I'm not recording 24/7, just on motion, which is standard practice in the industry.

Looks like a good deal. I think this camera is nothing but RLC-820A. ( Google brings same results for both).

Can I turn on/off individual cameras on demand.

    • +1

It is different to RLC 820a, trying to find the model, but no where to find

    • It's not the 820a at all. Seems much newer.

      Image says they are P434's

      https://reolink.com/au/product/p434/

      • OP says they are P334, but the description says Colour Night Vision which sounds wrong.

Good deal if you actually need 8 cameras. If you need fewer cameras, i'd suggest just wait until Reolink has a sale (either on their website, their eBay store or they AliExpress store - just finished dinner good deal but more will follow) and buy the NVR and cameras separately. Probably cheaper plus allows you to choose the specific cameras that suit. I've just upgraded my front camera to one of the ColorX 8k models and the night performance is vastly better than the older model I had.

As for installation, running the network cable to each will be the hardest part for most, but depends on access. Otherwise just 3 screws into a wall for each camera

      Yep.

Always recommend buying cameras and NVR's separately, since these bundles full of identical cameras tend not to fit most use cases.

Also, Reolink cameras often (but not always) include gimped versions of their retail cams in the combo packs, which are often lacking independent micro SD-cards slots (for secondary recording if disconnected from NVR) and UIDs which are required if you want to run your cams off other brand NVRs or natively off a NAS or server.

Recommendation for the ColorX CX810 (bullet) or CX820 (turret) is a great one for anyone seeking improved nighttime performance.

      • Night time performance of the ColorX is great, although comparing to the regular Reolink unit's night vision is admittedly a pretty low base. Is strongly recommend a CX810 or CX820 for a main front camera, unless you really need the range/flexibility of the dual lens units.

        • Very true.

In my case, a Trackmix (for PTZ ID and tracking) and/or Duo (for wide-angle oversight) with LED alongside a ColorX cam on each corner provides great cross coverage for your typical residential setup, whilst the LEDs from the traditional cams provide great ambient light to maximise the low-light capabilities of the CX range.

  • Looks like a great deal if you want some fixed cameras to cover a decent view; i suppose because the FoV is narrower there's 8 there to give you the maximum coverage you need.

The setup i'm eyeing is only 4 cameras + doorbell + NVR but its hovering 1k at it's lowest. I got very interested in this when I saw it in store and now with the sale its definitely good for those looking to add some security and vision.

That being said, the NVR looks to be an older model so if you swap to a higher resolution camera it may not be supported (?) - i can't seem to find it on their website.

Can you kindly confirm the hardware model of the NVR box please?

Looking to get this for my small business.

Has anybody got Renolink duo 2 cameras and can comment on their night vision performance please?

    • Duo 2 is a great cam with a fantastic vertical and 180 degree horizontal field of view, but limited infrared black and white coverage at night.

Look to supplement your install with a couple ColorX CX810 or CX820 for night time identification purposes.

      • Is 1224A any good cam???

        • +1

          Yep, very decent.

But most learned judges will tell you that the 8mp CX820 is a better choice in most use cases over the 12mp 1224A due to it's superior night vision and smaller file sizes. 8mp is currently considered the sweet spot for detail vs file size, especially on systems with limited storage, like this.

Would the Ubiquiti 4 camera kit be worth the extra over this? Only need 4-5 cameras, especially if the FOV is better… ~ $1200.

    https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/cameras-nvr/collections/…

    • Yes. The UNVR instant is a good piece of kit. The cameras are slightly lower quality than the Reolink, but AI detection on the cameras is beneficial.

Plus the level of control in UniFi Protect is superior to the Reolink system a friend has.

Personally I have a UniFi Protect instance recording on an Instant, and a Frigate unit doing some smarts. All with Reolink and Hikvision cameras.

    • That’s the system I am thinking of getting

  • Seems alright for the price, anyone can comment the difference between this to their 820D4-a system ?

  • For anyone who has a Reolink system like this, are you able to tell/confirm for me if it's able to be set up and use without an internet connection? Like, can I plug a monitor/keyboard/mouse into it and set it up as a standalone system?

    Cheers

    • Yes it can, you only need internet to access and view remotely

  • +1

Good price (in a post AliExpress / Reolink deal world) if it can be confirmed that the included cameras have not been gimped to exclude UIDs and onboard SDcard storage like many of the Reolink bundles. I'd typically recommend at most a four cam bundled kit, since these are only base model cameras and once you dive down the rabbithole of CCTV, chances are you'll quickly deem it necessary to specify different cams for specific use cases. Ideally, CX810 ir CX820 for night vision, the Duo2 or Duo3 for wide angle panoramas and Trackmix for automatic/pan/tilt/zoom tracking of anyone who enters your property line or drops off (or takes!) home deliveries.

Worth noting that if this NVR has the same specs as the retail RLN8 (it seems to based on specs, albeit in a different form factor for Costco bundle), know that you can add one additional wi-fi cam for 9 powered feeds on this "8" channel NVR. Really handy if you want to add a WiFi doorbell to the mix.

Also vaguely handy is the additional four "secondary channels" which can be used for 2nd inputs from the dual lens Duo and Trackmix cams, or for any non-hardwired solar cameras like the Reolink Argus range which record only when there is motion, rather than constantly.

    • That actually good to know as I need to install a door bell as well. I was thinking of only installing 7 cams and a poe doorbell. Is wifi door bells any good?

      • Fantastic.

And best part is that you can often use the existing wiring from traditional doorbells to power or at least pull thru power without needing to feed thru CAT5/6 and RJ45 connectors thru existing door jambs or frames.

Note that the elusive white doorbell is generally considered better than the black since it has package detection and a portrait mode which is typically more suitable for doorbell cams than the default landscape mode of most cams.
