iphone 17 256 gb for about $1250 vs iphone 16 plus 128 gb for $1150

    • 16 plus 256G is $1299 by the way.

      • +1

Wouldn't get either 16 pluses regardless.

        • Can you explain why?

          • +1

@keeperofthegood: Just a matter of preferences and personal usage. I'll get a 16+ over 17, cause I dont care about 120hz. I want longer battery and bigger screen. And 128gb is enough for me.

Do your own math. It's your opinions that count the most, not others.

            • @raperozbargain: I'm very keen for the + size, I've tried a friend's and it was a lovely user experience. But I am at a point now where I need to pay for the 1TB phone so I'm sadly priced out of buying the newest gens. Still on my 13pro 512gb and constantly out of space.

              • @keeperofthegood: Have you considered an external drive? iPhone has USB C now so using with a portable SSD is super convenient. If you save and transfer a lot of files, you may still need a Pro model for fastest USB 3.0.
                I recommend looking at a Pro Max 512gb + a portable drive.

@raperozbargain: People always forget about the software side. There is a potential of one year difference of software support between new gen and old gen. so in the future when Apple put 16 series to retro devices, then you will have to find a new phone, while 17 series will last for another year or so.

              • +1

@RenewableInitium: Well an iPhone is supported for about 6 years or more. I swap phones every 4 years. So one year less is not a problem to me 😉
As I said, it's a matter of personal choice. Your case may be different if you choose to hold on as long as possible.

              • @RenewableInitium: 6-7 years software support is a gimmick only. Do you think a phone’s hardware, specially battery, can last for 6-7 years…!!!! 4 years is a sweet spot to change a phone, so any phone that has 4 years of support left/provided should be fine.

    • Where can I get the iPhone 17 256GB for $1250 ?

      • +1

        a certain 1200 port in

        • 1250 is achievable but not an off the shelf offer (i.e. available with GC's etc), given you need a credit check and so not really that fair to compare.

          • @JDMcarfan: but its really doesnt make sense to get this vs that 17 with just little $ diff

            • @McMaferMur: oh yeah agreed. just 1250 is skewing the argument way more towards the 17.
Either way for $150-$200 more, this year's iP17 is enough of a step up to justfiy

    Black only available.

    Red ones are faster…

    • Explain…

      • longer wavelengths

        • I'll check with Apple on that claim

      • It's a joke riffing on how red cars are perceived as being faster…

  • Once you go black…

    • +1

      you go red?

    • You end up robbed.

Good deal, thanks bought one for a family member

i heard 17 base has high end screen that usually only on the pro line up

      • +2

Yep, base 17 has a 120Hz always on display (previously exclusive to the Pro line up).

Base iPhone 17 also starts at 256GB, has the new selfie camera (same as the Pro line up), and a larger battery. The base iPhone line up has never looked this good in years. It's just unfortunate they got rid of the Plus model.

        • At that rate is it even worth going the Pro model?!?

          • @keeperofthegood: Depends how serious you are about your photos

          • @keeperofthegood: Pro main camera sensor is still significantly larger. Better low light, better bokeh, more photography features. But most people won’t notice. If you don’t even know what I’m referring to means you should just get the base model 😆

  • tempted to sign up for costco.

    • +1

You can sign up, buy the phone, and then refund your membership

      Or

      Get a Costco gift card

      • Does the gift card thing actually work?!?

        • 100% it works. I do it every few months

Think the lowest is $20, you pay the remaining with whatever payment method you want. You DO need to go to the counter first now and get a temp card thing

  • IS the deal still going? I only see it for $1549. Also does Officeworks price match it?

    • No officework does not price match
