reading through the comments made me crave an actual banh mi, might have to drop in and get my local.
Just tried, it was ok, chicken is just two pieces of chicken burger patties and sauce alright, not much salads. However, at the end of the day, I still prefer the OG banh mi from your local Vietnamese outlet.

I mean and the whole "support small local" and not "big corpo" situash as well.
also defending big corporations comment incoming. 😂
where is the nation wide protest for this?
you can start one
Just tried it… Nothing special… The bun isn't as nice as the ones U get at decent Vietnamese shops
were you seriously expecting it to be better?
I love a Banh Mi, but is this comparable at all?
Had one today. Can confirm it's pretty decent.
Tried one and of course it's not as good as the local Vietnamese joint (who would even try to think it is), but overall not bad. A tad dry and the salad dressing just isn't quite enough.
yeah i got a couple today, ive already tried them when they first came out in Newcastle, but thought i would get them again, i added a good wack of the Roll'd brand Nuoc Mam dressing you buy from Coles and it made them way tastier
Is it a bargain? why upvote it then? cmon bro your legit around here
What's the issue?
Its not a bargain, you said its not great, you can get good ones all day for the same price.
@mitcheo: I upvoted before trying. I'll have to try the giant snack pack next to see if I'm disappointed in that.
@Clear: I dont really understand to me Its like when your tryna find legit reviews and they are like 5 star "I havnt opened it yet but seems good" But thanks for your other contributions around here tho, you do a great job.
Tried it just then. Not worth $10… I'd setting for a $6 traditional cold cut banh mi any day
Do they use hard or soft bread?
Is Banh Mi supposed to be hard or soft? Is it a baguette but short?
Last time I requested for soft bread at MPR, she said only one bread.
It was super hard, hurts to eat.
Soft and crispy
Not crispy one bit.
Banh mi should have a crispy exterior and soft and fluffy inside
There's a couple of new secret menu items too - Poppin Twister (giving bbq bacon roller vibes) and Hot or Not Burger.
I was initially excited about this but feel like they will be fairly dry compared to the real deal, without the pate and butter and cold meats.
I am curious as to how this could be improved.
One thing I would say is to dice the chicken so that it absorbs more sauce.
Not nationwide. My area (Victoria) has the crispy parma burgers. Must be targeted to specific areas
Only negging as Mods won't mark post as targeted.
That's not what targeted means
Grego gives it a thumbs up 👍
That was surprising indeed. But his tastebuds seem to be lenient on the old Colonel.
Seems to be a lot of hate. Is it just because it's coming from a large food chain?
Probably because it isn’t really a Vietnamese banh mi, the size is pitiful and the price (for me at least) is more than a normal banh mi from my local bakery.
I like a bit of kfc as much as the next guy but i will be getting my banh mi from my bakery still. It's just better value.
Tried one yesterday, the size of the chicken tender shocked me. It was a huge tender cut in half, like 3 times the size of normal tenders.
No pate (obviously)
All I could taste in their Mayo was five spice, strong on the cinnamon side. Bahnmi doesn't use five spice.
Bread wasn't crunchy.
LOL. so they just put 5 spices in the mayo… that's funny. No secret herbs and spices for this marketing scheme!
They aren't tenders, it's just a zinger fillet cut in half.
Holy shit this has gotten some people (bots?) really upset
Price is a bit offputting especially when i can still find banh mi's for around $8 but will definitely have to give this a try before it leaves the menu.
Any one know how long this will be around? How long was the sweet tokyo range around for 3 or 4 months?
The Zinger Bánh Mì is available at participating KFC restaurants nationwide from Tuesday, November 4 until Monday, December 1, starting at $9.95.
The price is very offputting for me!
I can throw in an additional 75c at the bakery and get a banh mi plus a small tart or slice. And it'll be twice the content as this Zinger banh mi. Now that I've put that into context, I wanna post the banh mi from my bakery as a bargain!
Yeah this is not really a bargain for me but I am curious a little bit in how they pulled it off but having had many zinger burgers and sliders I can kind of imagine how it might taste so I might pass on this one sadly.. still need to try some better banh mi's out there first
I do admit to also being a little curious with how it tastes.
But i would likely have some pate, coriander and pickled carrots ready to correct the flavour lol
@Mugsy: very good call yeah i am trying to figure out if it is worth getting one of these or 4 sliders for $10 via the 2 for $5 happy hour 2pm-5pm deal they would both probably make me feel full but the sliders might end up being better bang for buck per say for calories and value
is the liver pate from asian grocery shops a good substitute for pork roll banh mi or no where near i cant be stuffed making it myself from scratch myself but have always wondered.. the coriander is easily store bought and the pickled carrots i have somewhat gotten close and figured out just grate them into a bowl then submerge in vinegar and soy sauce and what other spices you like salt pepper etc but yeah have not tried finding a pate replacement yet
i see trin's asian mart in penrith nsw sell them or most asian grocers the liver pate that is how do you make it or what do you buy that works
@AlienC: Been a long time since i have bought pate but i use to just get it from woolies or coles. I wouldn’t know which brand is best for banh mi these days unfortunately.
And yeah, pickled carrots and daikon radish is just made with rice vinegar, salt and sugar. Easily done.
@Mugsy: Woolies or coles sell pate? do you know if they still do and if so which brand did you buy?
i am very interested now.
Free survey drink always helps (which I value at ~$1.50).
I usually don't get a drink with my meals. Soft drinks mess with my tummy.
And if i do need to get a drink, i prefer the bottle of water (but i usually have a bottle of water on me anyway). As such, deals without a drink are generally more favourable
Tried one tonight. Small, flavourless stale tasting roll, flavourless chicken (smaller than a zinger), anemic salad, generic dressing. Why do they bother?
To recoup all the marketing cost they put into this campaign lol
Usually i get the $9.95 packed lunch or an $8 box of wicked wings or nuggetavif available if i get KFC. Doesn't sound like the zinger banh mi compares well in value to those options.
yeah i think 4 sliders via the happy hour deal would be better worth it personally 2 for $5 2pm-5pm but idk my curiousity is thinking about trying it but i know i will just regret it so idk
Saw this post, went to KFC, bought one…..
The size is less than half of an $11 Banh Mi from a Vietnamese store.
Ate it ….. and…………….. YUCKKKK!!! it's horrible.
you love the coriander?
