My 84yo Mother's computer has just karked it. As she just browses the web, edits a few pictures, and uses Outlook, I'm after a low end system. Was hoping to get something (minus the Operating System and Monitor) for less than $250 or thereabouts. Even though she has been using a computer for 20 yrs, she's not good on learning new stuff, so I was hoping to load it with Windows XP.
Any suggestions?
Maybe your local freecycle.org group will have someone willing to donate an old computer. Shouldn't be too hard to satisfy XP.
maybe ebay - there's plenty of ex-lease Dells around the $100 mark, or find something local to you.

Yeah eBay is your best bet for 2nd hand ex-government or ex-university desktops.

XP is obsolete and no wonder. Decrepit and insecure. At least install 7 and spring for an SSD if you can. Biggest difference you can make.
