Ninja Frostvault 47L Cooler $199.99 Delivered @ Ninja Kitchen

50

I've been eyeing this Cooler off since they came out and I never wanted to pull the pin at the $499 RRP. They are often on sale to $399, and the cheapest I've ever seen them is $379 (Myer with a 24% off sale).

They are running a Black Friday sale for $199.99 delivered. Extra 10% off (WELCOME10) makes it $180 delivered, or if you've used that code there is a 7% shopback at the moment.

You can get the smaller one 28L one for the same price ($300 —> $200)

Seems like a great price for a well rated cooler. The dry zone cool drawer seems super handy. I just wish it had wheels and a handle. Heavy eskies filled with ice are no good for an old man's back!

Yeah nah. Plenty other coolers way cheaper and functional. See the BCF deal that was wild.

      Which BCF deal?

The one for the cooler. Duh!

Unnecessary. Put drinks at bottom ice on top and food on top. Waste of money. Get an igloo with wheels for $80ish

    • I'm all ears - I'm in the market for a new esky, but can't see any similar sized igloo ones for 80 - do you have one in mind?

What about when the ice melts and all your sandwiches are floating around. Not saying that this product is great but your example is the exact situation this aims to remedy.

      • Then Either u have made sandwiches to be eaten the day after (hence why the sandwiches have not been eaten for so long), or you have left the cooler on top of a furnace.

Ice does not melt in a cooler as easiy or quickly as one might think… Besides, all the water will go to the bottom and the Blocks of ice will still be up keeping the food dry.

  • I don’t need this…

  • You can get a 50L Adventure Kings fridge/freezer for that price:

    https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/fridge-freezers/adventure-k…

    • I've got one of these, they are no good as eskies, only good for running 12v

      • Yeah, but if you can get a fridge with a compressor for $200 then an Esky for $200 is taking the Micky.

Maybe if it were made in Australia I'd pay $200…

        • Then you just have to cater for the 2nd battery, or portable jump starter for all the times you drain your battery

          • @dav3: And, with an esky, you have to "cater for" all the ice.

This is beside my point that this esky is overpriced.

        • 12v fridges are cheap. Running that same fridge off grid for 12-24hrs is the expensive part.

          • @krisspy: Solar is cheaper than bags of ice

            • @BestTechAdvisor: A frozen microwave container or drink bottle full of water is pretty darn cheap

              • @dav3: ok?

                • @BestTechAdvisor: They're free, cold, and replace the need for shitty bags of ice

                  • @dav3: You still need to freeze them in a fridge…

                    • +1

@BestTechAdvisor: Yeah who doesn't have a freezer already running?

Most campers who go off grid for days would tell you to use frozen milk bottles instead of bagged ice to avoid drenching your food in water.

                      • @krisspy: Yes, but then you need access to a freezer to top up. It's not off-grid for long.

I also use frozen bottles in a 12V freezer just to fill up empty airspace so the freezer doesn't have to work so hard.

Either way, a 12V fridge + solar is going to be the cheapest truly off-grid option. That's why it's what all the off-grid people choose.

All of this is beside my original point that an Esky shouldn't cost as much as a fridge.

Sure, eskies have their use but this is very expensive at $200, and $500 RRP is ridiculous.

                        • @BestTechAdvisor: No one is using this thing for multiday offgrid trips, it's for taking drinks and nibbles for a picnic or BBQ. Actual decent coolers are fine for multiday offgrid trips without the need to top up with ice.

I've got an old Techniice cooler and just bought a Dometic Fridge/Freezer with a 100ah LiFeP04 and solar panels. The only reason I got the powered solution was for freezing fish I catch on longer trips, before that a proper, well prepared cooler kept block ice fine for days.

I wouldn't pay $200 for this thing let alone $400, but the point is a $200 cooler with home made block ice made in your standard kitchen fridge/freezer is perfectly fine for short trips and is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a portable freezer, battery, and solar rig to keep a cooler topped up. If you're making that kind of investment you may as well just get a bigger portable fridge and be done with the cooler completely.

  • Seems like a unique idea that I haven't really seen before. It keeps everything together without needing 2 separate eskies. Sort of like a fridge section to your freezer esky. That said, it'll probably get quite heavy fully loaded. Also not the most space efficient with 2 big protruding handles.

I hope the bottom drawer is removable for cleaning.

Using flybuys points redeemed one and used for one year:
    👍 The Good

Exceptional Cooling: Keeps contents icy cold. Two large bags of ice easily lasted for 48 hours.

Handy Drawer Feature: The separate drawer is incredibly useful, even capable of keeping ice cream frozen for a couple of hours.

Durable & Easy to Maintain: Features great build quality and is simple to clean.

    👎 The Drawbacks

Bulky for its Capacity: At 47L, the exterior size feels disproportionately large compared to the usable interior space.

Limited Usable Space: Once filled with the two recommended bags of ice, the remaining capacity for food and drinks is significantly reduced.

Weight & Portability: It's quite heavy when fully loaded, requiring two strong folks to comfortably move it.

Small Drawer Size: While handy, the drawer is not very large and can only accommodate a few items.
