Powerwall is simply not able to compete with the govt rebate being based on kWh storage, cheaper batteries benefit the most. It has some nice benefits compared to the cheapest Chinese batteries, but you’re still better off buying a bigger battery that’s half the price.

    • Yes it is true pricing wise. But then, some of these Chinese batteries are cheap for a reason.

These are the batterry brands as well currently in Australia, pulled from Solar4ever. Likely missed a few there

Energizer, Solplanet, Alpha ESS, Anker, Neovolt, CALB, CEEG, Dyness, Hinen, Enphase, ESY, Evantra, FOXESS, Franklin, Fronius, GCL, Midea, Goodwe, Felicity ESS, SAJ, Hiconics, Hoymiles, Huawei, Roypow, iPotisEdge, iStore, RCT Power, eCactus, JinKo, LG Energy, Deye, Pylontech, Haier, Nahui, Redback, Red Earth, Redx, Renon, Chelion, Chint Power, Bytes, Swatten. Sigenergy, BYD, GivEnergy, Growatt, GSL Energy, OLiPower, Smart Lifestyle, SMA, Eveready, Ambrion, Solaredge, SolaX, Soltaro, Sonnen, SRNE, Sungrow, Sunsynk, Stealth Energy, Akai Energy, Tesla, Altius, Star Charge, Weco, Xess, Kehua, TNK, HYXi Power, ZRGP, ZYC Energy

Will many of these still be here in, say, after10 years?

many of the ‘cheap batteries’ offer exceptional ROI.

Example: Fox ESS 42 kW battery system fully installed for around $4,500 after government rebates, it has an estimated payback period of ~3.6 years for an average Australian household.

        Battery: https://solarbatterysupermarket.com.au/products/fox-ess-batt…

        Avg household: https://www.electricityprovider.com.au/energy/blogs/what-is-…

        • I think you didn't select 42kW?
          It says $18,948.00 for me.

          • @RickOnOzBargain: Likely not including govt incentives, which are ~$372 per kWh.

So for a powerwall you save $5k. For Fox you knock off almost the entire price of the the battery.

My installar said Sig or Tesla nothing else compares, he said the Fox ESS is absolute junk with aftersales support to match.

          • @blemish412: As a solar industry insider since 2013 that is not the case at all and I suggest you get more opinions than his.

            • @skysurfer: two top tier installers have told me this now

              • @blemish412: What exactly does "top tier" mean and what qualifies them as that? And how does it make them immune from having an agenda of self interest prompting them to tell you what they did? And given tbere are thousands of installers do you think a survey of two is adequate to base your own opinion on?

After 10 years none of these batteries, including the Powerwall will have warranty anyway.

        • What I tried to say, is with this amount of competition, even in 5 years time some of them will already be going under.

What will happen if they went under? No more warranty, no more support.

There are some more reputable brands at cheaper end, that have been around for years still. Ie Alpha Ess, Growatt. Just don't blindly follow the prices.

    I wanna be a trillionaire….so f&?king bad

  • I already had enough with my Tesla car
I always suggest people , don’t believe Tesla brand.
    Stay away

    • Like what?

    • turn your car into powerwall then

  • +1

Annoyed they fully removed the powerwall 2! Should have moved to buy another module, but it's been totally discontinued. Is either buy another complete independent system (and remove the Tesla) or stay as is…

    • Also worth noting you can't connect an existing Powerwall 2 to a new Powerwall 3 to extend capacity

  • -2

Tesla has a huge recall and is offering rebates like this (with accompanying fine print you have to sign) to keep customers quiet. This isn't a bargain, it's a bribe.

    • +1

The recall is for powerwall 2 systems. Also they’ve been replacing them for free with power wall 3’s. Where are you getting your info from please?

      • +1

This is correct. My PW2 is being replaced with PW3.
Perhaps this deal will also allow me to get an additional $750 gift card

      • I'm in the industry and it's definitely being hushed up. A recall would be normally announced publicly and a few upgrade would also be highly publicised, bit neither is happening.

Tesla is using their deep pockets to turn what would normally destroy a business into a positive move - which is not a bad thing. But they're doing it in a shady underhanded way, which certainly doesn't look good.

        • As a customer / consumer, my PW2 has been out of action for about 2 months, and will be replaced with a newest model PW3 replacement. Once the PW3 is in place. I'll be a happy chappy. Don't see how good or bad publicity would change the above. Don't care if it's front page news or not - Tesla didn't deny the problem, in fact the app is quite open about the process. They're coming good with a suitable replacement. Doesn't seem shady to me.

  • If telsa announce v2h through the powerwall 3 for a bunch of variants of 3 and y plus this incentive, could make for a good point of difference

  • So how much do people pay for Powerwall 3 installed after rebates?

  • Lots of posts and recommendations about Sigenergy, any deal in VIC? Interest to invest one. Many thanks.

  • I just got mine installed this month. This is annoying
