Brother HL-L2480DW Compact Mono Laser Printer $199 + Delivery ($0 to Metro/ OnePass/ C&C/ In-Store) @ Officeworks

30

Priced to clear so I don't know how many there are.

Not sure what the difference between the MFC and HL models is. They both seem multifunction.

this does not have a sheet feeder - you can see the top is flat

    from google reddit:

"Its a weird model that goes against brothers own branding template.
Its a multifunction, brother models these as MFC (Or DCP?). The HL line is entirely single function devices with no copy or scan ability.

Im pretty sure other models that use the same print engine and are just surrounded by different plastic are MFC-L2880DWXL, MFC-L2920DW, MFC-L2880DW, MFC-L2820DW, DCP-L2640DW, MFC-L2800DW, HL-L2480DW, HL-L2464DW, HL-L2460DWXL, HL-L2460DW, HL-L2400DW, HL-L2445DW. So if you want to do a search, youll have to look at them all and also compare them.

And then in the end, someone considering this will likely go for the similarly priced MFC-L2800DW which also has a document feeder instead of just the flatbed scanner."

but the thing is its not obvious from first glance.. its just a black box, in fact the OP didnt mention it and expressly said 'not sure what the difference between the MFC and HL models is. They both seem multifunction"

it seems like a big clanger to me that the sheet feeder and copy function isnt there given you can find units with double sided sheet feeding granted they will be a fair bit more

        • They are both multifunction, but yes maybe the sheetfeeder is the difference. This one does copying and double sided printing - just not sheet feeding.

        • I checked two of the models, and the print speed was different

          HL-L2480DW : 34 pages per minute
          HL-L2464DW : 28 pages per minute

@jv: Another nice bump this one has is a decent screen. It can be a right sod driving the ones with a small text only screen.

        • The sheet feeder is in the front behind the Brother badge, you pull it down

    • Im pretty sure other models that use the same print engine

      they have different specs.

  • Starter toner is only for 700 pages.

Don't they all come with little ones like that? Refills are 1000 or 3000 page.

When I bought an Epson, it came will full toners.

  • I am waiting for good deal on Brother HL-L2445DW

    • How long will you wait for?

    • $158 at Amazon (not a great price though)

I recently got a free MFC-L2700DW from my local Marketplace and it's pretty good, including the scanning (which is only one-sided, but I only need to keep spare digital copies of documents, so I feed the stack in face up and then turn the stack over and feed it again to scan the other side).

Where do you buy knock-off toner and do you have any problems with them not being genuine. Just preparing for when the ink runs out - I don't know when previous owner changed the toner.

toner (1200 pages) TN-2530 is $100 on office works, double pack of TN-2530 XL (2 X 3000 pages) is $270. My last printer purchase was a brother color laser printer. Confess I find the continual toner issues a real hassle. It starts warning you for each color and then stops working but you can then go through this complicated reset to get some more printing and then it just won't print. I have had success with generic toner cartridges but it often plays up and seems to claim they are empty well before they actually are. I really hate this company's business model.

which company selling printers has a business model that you like?

don't forget to claim tax return

  • I've had 3 brother laser printers in the past and all suffered from the fuser units wearing down (vertical toner marks/streaks on the paper). Replacement fuser units are almost expensive as a brand new printer.

    • Fuser units do wear down eventually, that's just natural - or were these after short volumes?
