Doesn't seem any better than what is already on the market. Why doesn't anyone do dual hose portables in Australia?

  • thanks op, i was considering changing my current one to a delonghi pinguino compact, but am interested in your 2.6kw version. do you know if you need to attach a drainage hose and drain the water every so often or are these the versions that clears it automatically. As i've been reading the descriptions and it doesn't mention anything about this important function.

  • Very skeptical on things that say this,

“Simply press a button, and the air conditioner will operate at a lower decibel and intelligently adjust the temperature”

Shouldn’t it just operate at the lowest decibel anyway.

“Oh you won’t hear the V8 exhaust, just idle down the street”

  • Does anyone have any suggestions on any good portable ACs?

The only good portable ACs are the dual hose units that have both hoses directed outdoors.

The single hose units like this one, are continually pumping air out of the room. Which means new hot air is continually entering the room to replace the air that left ! They're basically garbage.

      • So does the two hose suck twice as much? Would that make it even hotter?

        • The 2 hose means 1 is inlet and 1 is outlet, means it's taking the air from the outside to take the heat outside from the exchanger. It's like having a split system where the hot exchanger is outside of the house.
Actually if you can use a window AC, that's a little more efficient than these portable ones, but not as good as split systems.

          • @kevlam3: Ah I see, thanks as I’ve been looking

            • @BatmanAU: When I was in a rental and before I had a split system I just modified a portable to operate with two hoses. Wasn't hard to do and I had an undercover area where I could place the unit outside recirculating air from inside the house on the cold side of the AC. Fixed the three worst things about portables - noise, inefficiency and having to drain it.
