    You can get some service records free from the National Archive. https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/Se…
    If a record is paid or publicly released, there will be an icon in the search results. You can download to your heart's content. If there is no icon, they'll want payment.

    I paid for some family records. WW1 records are a bit chaotic, I had to enter things by date into a spreadsheet to work out in date order: woundings, and disease order, recovery time promotion and distinguished conduct. My ancestor did hard service at Gallipoli and on the front in Europe! My WW2 ancestor did sea rescue in New Guinea.
