  • Does thisncut like zero gapped clippers?

  • +14

Most of the kids I coach for basketball look like they cut their own hair, possibly in the dark.

    • +3

Cool. Does this come with a torch?

  • +6

Please don't quote RRP it's meaningless. Shops rarely sell at RRP and all it exists for is to pretend stuff is on sale.

    • +7

looking at the 3xcamels, this is a good price.

      • +6

You're both correct for mine. It is a good price compared to the usual price, but the usual price is just over $100 - which is already an immediate 'discount' on the supposed RRP of $129. And there's an online store who sells this at $54, and has a '30% discount' on that down to the Amazon price. Anyone who says 'discount off RRP' is an immediate red flag.

        • +1

          Which online store?

  • +6

All for cheaper than an actual haircut!

  • +1

Great price for good clippers. The lower speed is kind of pointless and the combs break if dropped and can't find any cheap replacements. But otherwise works well.

    • +2

I use the lower speed for everything, but you’re right no need for speed options.

    • +1

At this price, buy two and you have cheap replacements.

      • +1

Yeah but that's still essentially $40 for one comb. You typically use only the one comb so it's useless without it. Wish there were aftermarket replacements for $2 from AliExpress, but no dice.

Some kind of comb swap with others that only use a different size is an idea

        • Better off getting a wahl, replacement combs are like $6, and most people only use couple of them, they get way too long quickly.

    • I got two replacement combs for the old model, about $10 each iirc. Had to call Remington customer support.
There are also Chinese knock-offs on AliExpress, but I’m not sure if their combs are compatible.

    • +1

I didnt use any of its combs, happy to give it to you if you are in sydney

  • Wow so cheap last time was about $63.50.

  • +1

Got it for $85 from JB few months back. 😭

    • +6

Bought it for over $100 two years ago and I've used it fortnightly. For around $2 per haircut, absolutely no ragrets.

    • Maybe buy this and return the new box with old receipt (or is it 30 day refunds only)?

  • +2

I purchased the original about four years ago and the battery still goes strong. If I forget to charge it, I just plug it with an extension cord into the mains.

I have only snapped one comb blade since and it is the outer edge so the plastic has held up quite well through about fifty haircuts.

The ability to wash it under the tap makes cleaning it easy and it came with a little oil tube for easy maintenance.

Purchase price was almost double this price and it paid for itself within a few months.

    Top post OP!

  • +1

Holy. Cheaper than going to the barbers! Tempted to buy an extra just cuz.

  • +6

Seem to be a lot of users who have one for all over buzz cuts. Anyone use it successfully for short sides, blended to longer on top?

    • +6

Bought this a couple of months ago and do a fade with it. First few times were pretty bad but have gotten better with it. I've found its tough to get a proper fade done without a visible line since theres a decent gap between the guard sizes unless you're brave enough to use the really short guards. I always do it on a Friday to give time for it to grow back in a bit over the weekend.

    • +1

Yeah pretty hard to do it yourself, you need a mirror at least (a fixed one would be better). Clippers are best if you are just doing an all over buzz cut in whatever length.

Kind of given up on home jobs, not worth my time but fun to try. The barbers seem to have a few different clippers, not sure if the type with the micro jumps ( clicky settings) and the foil razor is impossible to blend for skin fades.

    • I used to. I went mostly by feel rather than using mirrors.

    • I bought one about a month ago. Only did one but used about 6 different guards to do a kind of fade on the sides. Blending the crown was the hard part but I got it pretty good just needed to use a bit of product for a few days until it settled to keep it looking nice.

Have eyes on some barbers scissors for the top but could also just get the top done professionally every 4 months or so and maintain the sides with this.

Should say I also bought a folding mirror that lets me see the back and sides much easier. Would have been much harder without.

    • Yeah, it's workable with practice. Though I prefer less wide options for this (ie almost any other brand)

  • Great price. Been using mine for a while. Getting another just in case.

    Thanks Op!

  • Just bought one — I have no idea about haircuts, but I’m inspired by Sarwar’s Hair Story!

  • Width of the cutting area is what makes these so good, makes clipping hair so much faster and harder to miss any spots - especially when you're awkwardly holding up a second hand mirror to try check the back of your head.

    • This and I like the curve too

  • +1

    Thanks OP, claimed price protection!

    • +2

who are you doing price protection with now? I got rid of my 28 degree master card due to the high annual fees, they came back and offered some months without it, but it was like meh…

      • 28 degrees is great, the savings on price protection easily outweighs the small fees, but people are super tight on here. You also get monthly benefits you can convert to gift cards.

Isn't the price protection grand fathered now anyway?

        • -1

          Correct.

          • +1

@b-radicool: $8/m is hardly a high annual fee and you get $10/m rewards when spend over 1k.

            It's well worth keeping.

      • Yep 28 degrees and what g shock said.

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

    good for just beard?

    • there is a pic of him doing his beard, i bought based on that image :D

      and from the reviews…
"The additional trimmer blade attachment cuts a bit closer and is great for cleaning the neckline and lining up the beard. Would highly recommend for someone looking for a quick tool for a short buzzcut with the additional beard trimming capabilities."

although not to be confused with a shaver…

  • Great unit! Bought mine for $62 a month or so ago. Cuts so well I don't use the clips it comes with and having the wide curved blade just works. If I wasn't overseas right now I would be a second one. The box is a pain in the ass to open 😂

    • +2

U can still buy just put ur friend address for delivery

  • How hard is it to cut your own hair. Is is something that most people can learn to do?

    • depends on the cut, i got my partner to do mine during covid, for a simple cut, blended sizes, and i think it was a #6 or so on the top, there was no issues, YMMV.

    • +1

My wife has been cutting my hair since 2021, saving us nearly $700 a year and the pain of waiting in line for over an hour. She learned through YouTube, it took some trial and error, but she got the hang of it in the end. I’ve stuck with the same hair style (skin fade) ever since and don’t plan on changing it! The upfront cost was around $150.

      • I kind of need some clippers that do 0-00, hard to blend between the foil razor (000) and the shortest my walh clippers go (0.5 attachment). Both the trimmer and clippers with no attachment get stuck on the skin too much and it's not doable like with an attachment.

    • It gets easier with practice like everything else.

Watch some Youtube vids and just start- Good thing is your hair will grow back :)

Best to start Infront of a mirror with another hand held mirror behind your head to get the line ups if your going for a shorter fade.

    • Depends on the cut. Buzz cut and a simple clipper cut (shorter sides) is pretty easy. I did the opposite of most posters and just went by feel, with wife or kids pointing out which part I missed after.

  • +1

Ive had an older style Remington waterproof hair cutter which was brilliant but eventually replaced with this newer style one+ year ago which is very poor in comparison. Blades jam even when oiled regularly, sometimes work at different speed settings and charge lights flicker. Wouldn't buy again even at this price.

    • Sounds like a faulty unit or very thick hair, never had issues with it that weren't just the result of not enough oil. Maybe something is screwed too tight or you have something actually jamming it somewhere. Could take it apart and give it a really good clean and check for any rust/dirt/nits etc

    • Interesting- I just bought this. I’ve got the older one and love it.

All I do is a zero all over

  • Great find! Thanks heaps!

  • +2

Any comparable price elsewhere, trying to avoid Amazon.

  • Good for kids haircuts ?

  • +1

Thanks op. Bought one as a backup.

  • These are incredible, have used all the generations for the last 5+ years.

    • I just ordered this and your comment has me worried about the build quality.

For the past 5 years I have been using the same Wahl clippers. They are solid but they need to be plugged into the power point which I don't like because it means I can't cut my hair in the shower.

  • Can't wait to cut my own hair!

Thanks OP, bought 3 for my uncles that cut their own hair as Christmas gifts and 1 for me to try out. Luckily just before it sold out just now.

  • Must be an annual event

Purchased another just for a backup at this price. I use it weekly.

    • Weekly!? Damn, your hair grows fast!

      • +1

Trim my beard with it as well. All the one length. Jason Statham style.

Worm escaped by getting up late.

  • thanks for sharing how to get the deals?

  • I got the previous model from TGG for ~$80 nearly 6 years ago (just in time for the pandemic), and somewhat to my amazement, it’s still going strong.

Doing the back of the head is still a hassle (unless you use a single setting) and I felt guilty ghosting my decades-long regular barber, but the ROI was too good to pass up.

  • Jb will price match, Just got one same price.

As a user of both remington and philips I highly recommend to check out Philips Washable Hair Clipper Series 5000 instead, they are on sale for $48 in amazon now, biggest plus points being only having 3 clipper heads (instead of like 15) as it has a rotating dial to switch between different clipping levels, same long lasting battery and no known disadvantages compare to my remington. I find the philips also easier to hold.

Also becaused my remington battery died after just a year of normal use and have to use it with the cord…

    • Have never owned anything Remington but not a brand I'd go for usually.

Had a look, three combs probably aren't enough for any type of blending and those attachments look very long, maybe good for long hair styles.

      • 'it has a rotating dial to switch between different clipping levels'

    • I'm with ya. Just bought the Philips for $48 instead. I usually do a buzzcut at 1.5mm and looks like the Phillips will do just fine.

      • Ive had my phillips for close to 9 years now, and before that i had a phillips for 7 years. Never oiled them at all and they worked perfectly except they need a charge every 3 to 4 shaves.

  • Missed it 😢

  • Thanks OP just grabbed one.

    • +1

Did it come back in stock for you or grabbed one earlier?

  • Thanks got one.
