Tried this app on an older ua55h6400aw samsung tv. Unfortunately does not work.
You can get a small USB-C or iPhone plug infra-red dongle, for AU$ 4+ , from AliEx, to use with smartphone and 'their Chinese-developed App'.
It works pretty good.

Tried it on my Sony X90J Google TV. Hoping that it can be used as a keyboard but the function wouldn't work.
Going to have to keep going with my K400R keyboard connected with the USB dongle to use the browsers on the TV. Uninstalled but thanks OP for the headsup.

With 7yr old Samsung TV, only works after TV is switched on by its remote. Then operates & can turn TV OFF.
Only used when TV was on but couldn't find its remote. So only few times.
No better than the built in google tv remote then
