Kudos for Scoopon

Credit where credit's due. I bought a deal for lunch or dinner for 2 at a local restaurant. Tried twice by phone and once by email to contact the restaurant with no joy. Lodged an on-line complaint with Scoopon and got an automated response saying they would get back to me hopefully in 2 days.

Well within 48 hours I received a nice email from Celeste at Scoopon saying the restaurant had gone out of business and I could choose a credit to Scoopon or Paypal (who I used to pay). I took the Paypal option and within literally minutes Celeste replied saying that a refund had gone into my Paypal account. Again within a few minutes I received a confirming email from PayPal.

Thanks Celeste and Scoopon - much appreciated.

    Yes, that is good.

Scoopon could improve further by letting voucher holders know when a business has closed, rather than peeps planning on using a voucher and organising their expectations around the fact that the voucher will be honoured.

Not all vouchers require bookings, so peeps could waste a lot of time going to a closed location, and could face potential embarrassment if they had promised to take someone out, etc,

Sure, morally and logically it would be great for Scoopon or any of the other group buy company to inform people when businesses have closed. The problem is that part of the way they make profits is for users to not redeem their Scoopons. Every time a user redeems a coupon, Scoopon pays the restaurant. Thus it's not in Scoopon's interest to notify or even remind people that they can't use their Scoopon.

  • that is a good outcome for you, better than being stranded with a coupon that cannot be used.

  • I had exactly the same thing happen to me yesterday, i bought a salon deal back in Nov and have been trying to book an appointment at the salon with no luck (not answering phone or emails) so i contacted Scoopon and Celeste did same thing to me as above, i thought it might be a bit of a pain to sort out but was so easy, gutted i didn't get to use the deal as it was a double gift for me and a mate (3hr pamper session) but at least i am not out of pocket, so well done Scoopon.

  • The problem is, they're so "hit or miss". I've been waiting for a refund to Paypal on a closed down carwash deal since 21 January. First time they said 5-7 "business days" for a refund, now they're not replying to my follow up on the Help Centre case.

Other times I've been refunded on the spot.

  • Think the positive comments above are hired by Scoopon! Had paid for a deal and realised it was in the wrong city (same business name as one used previously under the banner 'in the CBD' why do we get sent those???? No response from two queries - first one immediately after paying, plus additional international charge to the credit card. You've gotta be kidding!

    • You sure you bought a Scoopon? Scoopon is an Australian company so it wouldn't come up as an international charge.

    • I am suspecting that as well while I am getting a totally different story trying to do the same thing.

  • Looks like the moral of the story here is to request Celeste if you need to get a refund from Scoopon!

  • Hey Guys,

My name is Mitchell and I'm the new Online & Social Media rep for Scoopon.

If anyone has any queries regarding Scoopon deals, orders or similar, just let me know and I'll be happy to help with whatever queries you have.

Just so you all know, although we do aim to respond to each and every help request within 48-hours, unfortunately this isn't always achievable due to the fluctuation in volume of help requests received. Rest assured that we do respond to each and every single request as quickly as we possibly can.

Please also note that all of our Customer Service communication is conducted via email through our Help Centre. This is to ensure that we can keep track, and a record, of everything that is said in our correspondence(s) to customers. As we don't have a Call Centre, we also don't have a phone number that you can contact us on!

Our Help Centre can be accessed by clicking on the following link:

I'll also pass on your nice comments to my colleague, Celeste :-)

    Thanks
