Not sure if its a deal , but seems like a decent price.

Not throwaway, they are charging $499 for it. I personally wouldn't buy even if it was $0 on 36 month plan.
Total $2300 outlay over 36 months. Avge $64/mth.
No deal
phone for half the price but you sign on to a plan thats 2x the RRP
36 months over priced plan with Optus, this is not deal
JB have done $1200 off iPhone (enough for the 16 non e to be free) on 24 month $99 plan a few times.
So $2376 for 2 years assuming you don’t cancel and pay out.
Cheapest option this would come to is $2281 for 3 years, but a lower tier phone, plan and Optus instead of Telstra.
This is not a deal, looks like the cheapest plan you can get this on is the $55 plan; discounted to $38.50 for the first 12 months; after that you're paying the full $55 a month.
Minimum spend over 36 months will be $1782. That's $49.50/month
There are many cheaper alternatives like 365 day prepaid plans or mvno's offering on $20-30/month.
If you're overpaying by $25/month for 36 months you're going to end up spending $900 more than you need to to save $500. And that assumes you're after the 16E at full RRP.
Thing is you can buy the 16E right now from jb for $899, and up till recently 750 from costco. So while you appear to be saving $499 you're saving less than that because it's not worth 999.
Thank you for sharing. Love this community when someone goes to the effort to explain things and why they come to a conclusion. Saves many others here from spending time to do the same.
Far more helpful than the "no deal" comments others make.
Take a bow.
BTW this is not criticising those no deal comments. Just recognising the extra mile
Your analysis is perfect, the government could benefit from someone like you!
Not Worth it…
36 months 3 years must be smoking some good stuff to say this a good deal
Can you call 000 on it?
Optus only offering deals on 36 months is not worth it at all.
It looks like the Plans for 24 Months are also eligible, which makes the deal a little bit better.
When the Pixel 9a is only $500ish
Not sure it's worth keeping this phone for 3 years just to say you purchased it for $500 when it was selling for $750 outright at Costco not long ago. $38.50/m for 12 months isn't bad though considering Optus have the fastest 5G speed according to OpenSignal. But then, that's only for 12 months. If they had it for 3 years, different story.
Lol throwaway phone for an expensive plan
