When does iPad warranty start?

From what day does iPad warranty start?

Have googled around to get an answer but I've found nothing definite.

If you buy from Apple direct I can see how they could start your warranty from your purchase date.

But remembering Apple don't need your original receipt for warranty, what if you buy from places like JB or Harvey Norman?

So then it might seem your warranty starts from the day you activate your device.

But then what would stop people buying an iPad but not activating it for 6-12 months? Apart from missing out on using the device for that time :)

    Even if you don't register, Apple knows the week when the iPad was manufactured (by it's serial number), the date on Apple will be within a few weeks usually when purchased. You can see this when try to look up warranty status of any Apple device via the Apple website, if your purchase date is well before that date then great, if it's way past it you can send your receipt to Apple and they will adjust your warranty date accordingly.

    That doesn't sound very fair for the consumer. What if the Apple product stays in JB/Harvey Norman's stock for quite a while after its date of manufacture before it is sold?

      Did you read what imolared said.

      If you disagree with their date that warranty is to start, then you produce your receipt…. as they say

      if your purchase date is well before that date then great, if it's way past it you can send your receipt to Apple and they will adjust your warranty date accordingly.

      How can that be unfair? Needed to keep a proof of purchase is a requirement that most companies insist upon.

      In the case of Apple it would seem that you get some extra time if they take the date of activation. (Of course if that activation date is past some unknown cutoff criteria, then it will default to you having a receipt)

    Your warranty generally activated when you activate your device.

    To activate your iPhone from the box, you need to insert it into iTunes. This than activates the handset and the warranty.

    Now days you need iTunes to activate any device. Even if you do it over WiFi or cellular. This still classes as activated on the Apple system.
