  • I've had FF for a few years and have never been asked to pay a renew fee.

  • They've bee getting me every year through ANZ Visa.

    • Thats odd, are you in Australia?

On the Qantas FF page it says $82.50 once off fee for all Australian and New Zealand residents.

It sounds like its ANZ who is actually charging you the fee. Are you sure its not an annual fee for the card rather than Qantas?

      • No THE card has it's own fees.

Every year about this time I get charges on my Visa Statement for QFF & Visa.

I should check this on Monday.

        • Yep something is definitely a miss here. See this page:

          https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyns/joinff

        • Thanks , I'll dig up my old statements.

        • Just checked. I have an "Annual Fee" of $40 (must be for Visa through ANZ) and something called a Reward Program Fee for $55 - must be an ANZ charge for QFF?

These appear on the statement on the same date.

Yeah that sounds about right. I would consider some other credit cards. I had all my banking with ANZ for most of my life but found there's a lot of better offers out there.

It was a PITA changing but worth it in the end.

        • Looks like HSBC has a no fee basic Visa.

And maybe no QFF program fee.

        • I think you will find that this is a fee by ANZ, so you can accumulate QFF points for purchases. It is NOT a fee for joining QFF.

Like most ANZ card products you can elect not to accumulate QFF points and pay a lesser fee.

ANZ credit cards lost the plot years ago

  • Just a thought - may be you can get a new FF membership through Woolworths Rewards card scheme - and then transfer the points (i think a max of 5000 applies) to the new membership. The Woolworths one does not have an annual fee.

I've 400,000 pts to keep or burn.

    • You can use in qantas shopping and swap for shopping gift cards

      • Good idea.

I just bought something from the QFF shop. Not Cheap!

It seems if you buy a $1000 Myer Gift voucher the equivalent rate is 3/4 cent per pt.

  • i've found the availability of flights makes using the points a hassle, there is another purchase method, however it then uses a lot more points for a booking

how does spending the points on myers vouchers compare to using them for flights ?

    • Gift Vouchers seem inferior to upgrades unless your desperate to burn some points quickly.

      Google the FF forums.

However, if DJs or Myers have some super-duper specials or sales, then using Gift Cards might be cunning even with the poor rate.

      • so if you buy myers gift card at 0.75c/pt then when myers does a sale then using the gift card are better value ?

i suppose for items like mac pcs, then myers prices are ok

        • 0.75c/pt is not good value really.

But sale prices may make it a bit more palatable.

You can use different formulas to arrive at different values.

Highest claim I've seen is about 3c/pt for some flights or upgrades.

  • I find that redeeming flights are usually the best way to get rid of points.
    Or upgrading flights.

  • horizon,
make sure all your points are transferred to Qantas FF points, not ANZ ones.
You do have a separate QFF card tied to the anz account?
Then close the ANZ credit card and get a no-fees one.
