  I got this exact receiver about a month ago from Harvey for $298 via price match. Video pro had it at that price for about a month, put it back up to $448 for a week then back to $298. It's at $448 at the moment but I'm willing to bet next week it will be cheap again.

  Seems incredibly expensive for an entry level AVR. How does it compare to the Pioneer VSX-522 or Yamaha RX373s?

    the yamaha v373 is cheaper at 370 but they only differ in audyssey vs YPAO.

      i got mine for $340 when JB had it on sale. i think sometime in Q3-4 of last year they were going for around ~250?

  Not sure if it's a good price, I haven't done any research (on the price )but I would suggest avoiding this model. No audyssey eq, which IMHO is one the most important features of any receiver.

  Highly recommend getting the 1713 which has audyssey multi eq xt. Your ears will thank you for it. And it can be had for 450-500. Got mine from HN for $499 a couple of months back. More info on wp http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1952452

  From my previous research most say to not get this in favour of the (dearer) 1713 based on performance and value.

  Skip this at $388 and try to get the 1713 for $450. There's a receipt on Whirlpool (link above) that I uploaded a while back.
